Tammy Duckworth was elected last night, she is disabled because of her service to the country, is the House floor handicapped accessible and does anyone know if she is the first handicapped person to be elected to congress?

Even though the Tea Baggers are bat shit insane they can still use stairs but if your in a wheel chair thats kind of hard.

(10,857 posts)... being rolled in on a gurney. The only details I can recall now are that he was one of the longest serving Members of Congress prior to Thurmond and that he hadn't missed a vote in nearly forty years. I think that turned out to be his last vote.

The guy was William H. Natcher, who served from 1954 to 1994.

(53,410 posts)I haven't seen her climb stairs, but I bet she does. But I understand your question. I'm pretty sure they've made some changes since it's the law to have handicapped access isn't it?
