A national tea party organization is slamming Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for being a weak, Beltway elite candidate who failed to campaign forcefully on Americas founding principles and lost.
What we got was a weak moderate candidate, hand-picked by the Beltway elites and country-club establishment wing of the Republican Party, Tea Party Patriots National Coordinator Jenny Beth Martin said. The presidential loss is unequivocally on them.
The rebuke of Romney from Martin came just minutes after the networks called the presidential race for President Barack Obama. Its the strongest criticism the group has leveled at Romney.
Now that Romney has lost, the group apparently has no qualms about criticizing him.
We wanted a fighter like Ronald Reagan who boldly championed Americas founding principles, who inspired millions of independents and Reagan Democrats to join us, and who fought his leftist opponents on the idea that America, as founded, was a Shining city upon a hill, Martin added.

(7,515 posts)I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing the GOP move even further into that dark morass known as the Tea Party....It would mean after Obama another Democrat would occupy the WH.

(32,047 posts)If the Tea Party voters really stood for their principles why didn't they just unite behind Santorum or Bachmann? I doubt that beltway elitist/country club types really comprise most of the republican voter base.

Oh, and "like Ronald Reagan?" Don't make me laugh. The teabillies would have drummed him out of the party a long time ago.

(601 posts)The world has changed dramatically, they need to realize that. If Reagan ran today he'd be EASILY defeated as a clueless fuddy-duddy. Personally I love watching those clowns cannibalize each other. Let them. I'm happy toasting marhsmallows while the Reichstag burns.

(3,252 posts)Their brand of conservatism would get hammered in elections.
Also, their idea of Reagan is a figment of their imagination. Reagan wasn't as strident of a conservative as they think. That's part of the right wing myth making machine.

(29 posts)I am going out today to get lots of Coke and popcorn so I can sit back and watch the GOP civil war begin today...lol these assholes don't have a clue. I flipped on Fox for five min last night just in time to see Megyn Kelly showing us how they were tearing down the election set. It was one of the most unreal moments I have ever seen on television news. People were walking around and talking like they were in absolute shock. Then it hit me. OMG, they really are in shock. They really were in the bubble. Most of them truly didn't see it coming.
The day of reckoning has arrived for the Republican Party. They have to decide whether they want to be a party of rich white people and religious zealots, or to join the rest of us in forging a stronger America by working together.

(12,081 posts)Pledging to vote no on all legislation put forth by Obama. Pledging to never raise taxes under any circumstance. Putting in the party platform that the entire party stands for an all out ban on all abortion. Telling women they can't have birth control and that if they get raped and get pregnant that it is a gift from God. How can you possibley get more conservative than that?

(10,340 posts)Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't taxes actually lower now than they were under Reagan?
