In VT, voter backlash against GOP PAC money; VT GOP in "disarray"

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont’s 2012 election results show the state’s Republican Party is reeling and that a big infusion of super PAC money had no effect on the outcome, two noted political scientists said Wednesday

University of Vermont Professor Garrison Nelson said the Vermont GOP made a series of strategic blunders in the past two election cycles.

‘‘The Republican Party in Vermont is in serious disarray,’’ he said.

Retired Middlebury College political science professor Eric Davis said there may have been a voter backlash against the Vermonters First PAC, funded largely with donations from Lenore Broughton of Burlington.

Bernie and Peter (our rep) each got over 70% of the vote. The President got around 65%. Our very liberal guv got around 60%. Dems hold big super majorities in both houses, Progressives made gains in the VT Senate. There is only one statewide elected republican. In other words, nothing changed.
