Holy Shit. David Wiegel MUST READ: Look what the fuckers are trying to do PA

Pennsylvania Ponders Bold Democrat-Screwing Electoral Plan

Laura Olson reports on the happenings in Harrisburg, where Republicans now control all of the branches of government:

Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi is trying to gather support to change the state's "winner-takes-all" approach for awarding electoral votes. Instead, he's suggesting that Pennsylvania dole them out based on which candidate wins each of the 18 congressional districts, with the final two going to the contender with the most votes statewide.

In other reports, Pileggi sounds awfully sanguine about the effect this would have on PA as a swing state. Why even bring that up? Pennsylvania is typically a closely-divided state, and while it's gone Democratic in every election since 1992, it's been heavily campaigned-in every year.

<snip>

Here's what I mean. In 2008, Barack Obama won the state by 10 points (overcoming a last-minute hoax scare wherein a Republican volunteer faked a mugging and claimed a black man carved a B on her face, for Barack). But the congressional map had been gerrymandered by Republicans in 2001, and John McCain ended up winning 10 of 19 congressional districts. If the Pileggi plan had been in place, Obama's rout would have given him a slim 11-10 electoral vote victory. If Republicans do a smarter gerrymander this time, they could craft an 11-7 map, or even a 12-6 map (they'll have 18 to work with, thanks to the Census taking one seat away). Let's say Obama carries Pennsylvania narrowly, but loses 11 congressional districts. In that scenario, the winner of the Pennsylvania popular vote takes nine EVs; the loser takes 11 EVs. How's that reform look to you?

lot of people also bought into the Mythsters' ideology of White establishment taking back their country. Damn shame.

They have awaken a sleeping giant, it is our task now to maintain this giant that has been woken and to keep reminding people what the other side has in store for anyone that does not look like them. Now the republican party is left with finding animals to dress for their party so they can look good for the coming holidays, meaning election time.

and the GOP lege rejected it largely because GOP Congressmen were worried that Obama might try to work the vote in their districts and because they don't want PA to lose swing state status and the goodies that come with it.

There may be some benefits over the next 8 years, but population growth is in the cities largely, with Latinos and Asians the fastest growing components.

IMO the country has become much more progressive, and as we go forward more and more states in red country will come into play.

Obama won by a landslide. 20 EV means nothing. The next cycle several more states will become swing states that can more than offset anything they do in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Hell, Jeb Bush even made the statement that TX will be blue in four years.

These idiots are sticking their collective thumbs in the dyke for what will eventually be a total collapse of their political relevance.

This plan will never pass. It would hurt down-ticket Republicans more than it would help them in the national races. Pileggi is a has-been.

I don't know anyway to stop this from happening. I vote in all my elections but the turnout in 2010 was low and we got killed! When I voted in this election, I voted straight Dem ticket. Before I confirmed my ballot I noticed Kim Ward, who is a Republican, was also running as a Democrat on the ticket. This is allowed in PA. I voted for the Independent but needless to say Kim had no real competition.

The needs and expectations of government are different, depending on whether a person lives in a rural or urban area. Nebraska and Maine, two polar opposites politically, already do this.

Nebraska, has always been an agriculture state, and always went red. Both parties, during the election process, assume it will stay that way, and ignore it. However, there are less people farming today, and cities are growing.

I was frustrated at work tuesday night, listening to all of the older people wanting Romney, but than I went to my grand-daughters b-day party, and all of the young people were for Obama. After wards, I went to the apt. I was moving out of, and the young guy moving in, announced Obama won, his friend, was elated.

I can see, within a generation, Democrats taking 40% of the electoral college here, which would reflect, the population base. Bottom line, every district should matter, we should never be looking at a handful of states, to decide who are president is. Which is why, I don't believe in Pennsylvania, this will pass. They won't want to give up the "swing" state status.
