The story: My daughter is at the age where she's looking at high schools. She's an actress, so she's interested in the drama departments. Tonight, on a whim, we decided to go to a play at my Alma Mater. I'd once learned that Colbert's two kids currently attend the school, but didn't think anything of it. Turns out, both were performing in the play. I didn't see Stephen as we entered, but on our way out I walked right past him.
Understanding that he was here for his kids, I didn't want to take much of his time. So I simply turned to him, said hello, shook his hand, and told him it was a pleasure meeting him. He just smiled and said "Likewise".
How cool is that?

(9,999 posts)he knew someone whose daughter had worked for Stephen Colbert and she said that he was genuinely just the NICEST man. Kind and gracious to everyone who worked for him.

(13,776 posts)For obvious reasons (look to the left!) I'm not surprised to hear that, but I really am glad that my suspicions have been confirmed.

(12,081 posts)It was fascinating hear him talk about the process of trying to get on the ballot and then starting a super PAC. He is funny, but he is also very intellectual and just flat out brilliant.

(27,985 posts)he launched from The Daily Show and he is every bit as liberal and wonkish as Jon Stewart and yet, when he's not in his role, he doesn't pretend he's just a comedian. Jon Stewart does, although I think Jon Stewart actually believes he's just a comedian. Neither are "just comedians", not by a long shot and they are both scary smart.
