And could very possibly siphon off the youth vote. Fuck.
Im on TikTok a lot and just noticed this trend. There is an article about her and TikTok and youth in The Interceptnot my favorite source, but it is a source I guess
https://theintercept.com/2023/04/14/marianne-williamson-tiktok/
By the wayshe is 8 years younger than Biden. Not exactly a voice for youth for those concerned

(115,858 posts)I'm not convinced that actual "conservative" Democrats - those who might like Joe Manchin, for example - are going to be fans of Williamson and the like. That poll suggests only that some self-identified conservative Dems are considering an alternative to Biden, though Williamson's stated positions so far are pretty standard progressive/Democratic. But she's a New Age self-help author who became famous as Oprahs spiritual adviser (some folks thought Oprah herself should run, because... she's famous) who has never held any political office, served in the military, or been a cabinet officer. When I referred to the fringe of the fringe I wasn't suggesting an ideological far left fringe, more of the fringe of people who hate "the establishment," no matter what that is; her consistent theme is to "disrupt the system." A self-help guru who lives in a geodesic dome and consults crystals is the perfect caricature of what the GOP wants voters to think Democrats and progressives are, and they will use that caricature.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)is claiming some evil pollster-Democratic conspiracy to keep her name from the results.
For those who've forgotten, many pollsters don't include results for the "candidates" who poll under 1%. Eventually there'll be dozens of them

It will be OVER. The fifty year project of the Republican right will have succeeded because they have always bet on the progressives factionalism, and inability to form a lasting coalition.

(8,771 posts)Marianne already has 20% of previous Biden voters under 30. She has kind of become a political star over on TicToc and she has just started a question & answer tour of colleges. She's going for the young voters.

(101,362 posts)Yes, they may have flooded TikTok with videos, but it's when people hear her talk with someone who isn't a supporter that they'll realize she's not a serious politician. If you look at her favorability polling in the last election, she peaked in January 2019 (net +12% favorable), and then fell to net negative figures after that.

(42,767 posts)The poll by Echelon Insights asked those surveyed to indicate who they would vote for in the Democratic primary if the only choices were Biden and Williamson. Only three percent said they would definitely vote for Williamson, with 7 percent saying they "probably" would.
And when the poll asked respondents who they would support if Biden wasn't running, and presented a list of potential candidates, Williamson only gets 4%.
So, if its a two-person race, Biden v. Willliamson, she gets crushed. If others jump into the race, with or without Biden also in the race, Williamson falls far down in the pack.
And don't forget, her numbers went down the more people saw of her in the debates in 2020.

(101,362 posts)Page 139:
Among the "Dem+lean" for party affiliation (464 respondents, after weighting), she gets a "definite/probable" primary vote from 14% conservative (6 out of 41), 10% moderate (16 out of 163) , and 9% liberal (24 out of 259). Of those that, despite that "party affiliation", voted for Trump in 2020, she gets 29% (but note: that's 4 respondents out of 13), and 9 out of 15 who voted for a Republican in 2022. She gets 29 out of 376 who voted Dem in 2022 - 8%.
The people who are looking at her are more likely to be those who also think about voting for Republicans. You know, morons. They also appear to be mostly "anyone but Biden" morons. On page 141-142, there's a "who would you vote for in the primary if Biden doesn't run?" question. Her support drops from 46 (out of 464) to just 19. She would be behind Kamala Harris (127), Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Gretchen Whitmer (all those between 42 and 21).
