Study: About 49% of young voters cast ballots

5:10PM EST November 7. 2012 - Hard to believe on the day after President Obama's re-election that there was any doubt that young people would rally behind him again.

About 22 million to 23 million people under 30 -- or at least 49% -- voted in the election, according to an analysis by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University. The percentage could be higher after all the votes are tallied.

Turns out young voters made up a larger percentage of the total electorate (19%) this year than in 2008 (18%). Obama won 60% of voters under 30 compared with 37% for Mitt Romney, according to exit polls. That's a drop from the 66% Obama won in 2008.

I know several youth that drifted off to support Ron Paul and Jill Stein. They admitted that Obama was much better than Willard, but really wanted to vote FOR a candidate, than for what they perceived as the lesser of two evils. Among their complaints about Obama were: Wall St coziness, drones, marijuana, and jobs.
