(5,737 posts)where it's like West Virginia West. I stopped behind a pickup the other day that had the sticker, "I'll keep my God, my guns, and my money; you keep the change." In fairness, he didn't state WHICH God that was, however the Jesus that I have read about - the one who gave the Sermon on the Mount, who overturned the moneychangers in the Temple, who said to turn the other cheek, who said to offer your coat to the one who stole your cloak, etc. - would likely have been appalled at that statement. Mr. Pickup Driver seemed to be clueless as to the hypocrisy.
Throughout the election, I didn't see a single Obama sign here (unlike the first time), which didn't mean that he didn't have supporters here; it only meant that putting one up was an exercise in futility, as the local Tea Party darlings would just immediatley tear it down or deface it. Fortunately, most of the "anti-Obama" billboards up around town were so stupid and poorly done, that the first several times I saw them, I thought they were actually endorsing the Prez!
The local paper endorsed Romney (unlike the mighty Denver Post), and it recently ran a letter to the editor from some intolerant jerk who said that we should become two states (which is frequently brought up), because the Eastern Slope runs the elections, and that we should eliminate the electoral college, as she failed to see why other states should be allowed to elect our President! Guess she conveniently forgot that President Obama also won the popular vote, and (much as I love this state) there is no justification for having Colorado elect the president all by itself.
I've never smoked pot, but living here on the Western Slope, I'm glad I now have that option.

(443 posts)I have family there. I have seen the bumper stickers. Not that Mesa, Fruita, Palisade or even further south like Durango are better.

(408 posts)Here in Wyoming. The West is full of nuts who think they're cowboys or ranchers and it's still the 1800's. And I was born and grew up in Northern Colorado and have lived in Northern Wyoming for most of my adult life. These knuckleheads continue to vote against their own best interest. Might as well be Kansas.

(20,136 posts)He'll take the oath privately on Sunday. Although I believed they televised it when Reagan took the oath "privately" on a Subday in 1985.
I didn't realize that! January 21st is my birthday. What a nice present!

(183 posts)there was a President between Polk and Taylor...Polk left a day early to head home and Taylor was very religious and would not take oath on a Sunday...the VP already resigned, so next in command took over...David Rice Atchison, also, it said that he slept most of the only day he was president from a late night the night before at Taylor's Inaugural party.
NYC Liberal
(20,136 posts)Atchison never took the oath. If Taylor wasn't president because he hadn't taken the oath then neither was Atchison. Also, Atchison's term as President pro tempore had also expired (new Congress hadn't convened or been sworn in).
If anyone was (acting) president, it was James Buchanan who was Sec. Of State. Cabinet members don't have terms that expire -- they continue serving until they resign or are replaced (notice Robert Gates didn't have to be "re-confirmed" when Obama took office).
Anyway, I've just read a lot about that so there's some history for the day

(8,317 posts)When I lived in alaska, there was this one guy who circled downtown, day in, day out, in an old beat up Datsun mini truck with signs bolted to the sides, which needless to say, were babble. Right wing babble.
National health care, that guy could be cured and lead a productive life.

(32,723 posts)I passed out at a party once. Never again.
When I came to I was buck naked tied to the luggage rack on top of a station waggon on the freeway,...and there was snow on the ground. The station waggon was filled with all of the girls from the party hooting and hollering.
That's what I get for being on the swim team...

I don't remember exactly where the MN tweets originated, but it wouldn't surprise me if they came from her district. Most of the people I have met from your fair state are not like that.
