This isn't all that shocking as Fox News is the mouthpiece of the GOP. But can they really put the cat back in the bag after years of immigrant bashing? You already have wingnuts flipping out: http://www.salon.com/2012/11/09/conservatives_revolt_over_immigration_shift/

(31,706 posts)After Proposition 187 ignited a Latino involvement in the political process and thus tipping the state from Red to Blue the rushpublicans there thought they could just change the lengua and the Hispanics would forget about how racist and hateful the party really is. The "logic" is that since most Hispanics are Catholics...and many devout...this means they are "natural allies" in such things as opposition to same sex marriage and abortion. They also prefer making common cause with Hispanics rather than blacks...and if they can pit one against the other...so much the better. Remember, we're dealing with a party where racism still energizes the base.
To a limited degree they made some headway when dubya courted the Hispanic vote in '00 but in the "Post 9/11" world the rushpublicans once again resorted to their racist, xenophobic ways and turned "illegal immigration" into a new talking point and code word to mean "dirty Mexicans" and try to energize white vote in areas with growing Hispanic populations. It was a stupid tactic, just as Prop 187 was...and here are two asshats...Ingrate and Insannity...talking about "changing"? Yeah...right!

(7,759 posts)Be careful out there about the "divide and conquer" RW-GOP machine. For decades this is how they divided the poor whites from the poor blacks and the working-classes from each other.
