In the immortal words of my father of blessed memory, they are a bunch of stupid bastards.

In the first place, what they forgot was that for Big Lies to work , one must have a national crisis, such as 9/11, wherein Americans we running around like chickens without their heads, accusing the poor asshole at the 7-11 of being a terrorist, when all he wanted to do was ring up their Big Gulp and go back to watching TeeVee on his tiny set behind the counter. There, the Cheneyites we able to sell the Orwellian concepts with ease: "War? Sure, I'll take two, and matches with that, please."

But these assholes we spewing lies at a rate so fast that one could hardly keep up, and of course, a few of them went too far and were fatal to the Cause. Number One Rule: you don't falsely threaten people's jobs and you don't tell rape jokes. They got their arms caught in their own threshing machine and didn't have the guts to cut them off before they were sucked in to their political deaths. Imagine of the Establishment had expressed horror at the Akin comments, repudiated him, and sent a message that that would not be tolerated, and that they would rath lose the Senate seat than put up with anyone who would be so uninformed and misogynistic. It would have been the equivalent of setting a backfire and would have quelled the outrage and would have sent a message to all the others to not mention rape as a a means of conception. You rape a family member of mine in order to achieve conception sir, and you will meet Mr. Hillerich and Mr. Bradsby.

I shall preface this by saying that I believe that there was some grand master plan for somehow manipulating the results of this election, but one thing puzzles me. I find it almost inexplicable that Romney would go into Ohio and tell that lie about the Jeep plant. I am quite well aware that it gets easier to lie as time goes on, yet that was boarding on suicidal: did not someone believe that the backlash from that would be swift and vlcious? And the doubling and tripling down with the TeeVee and then the radio ads was perplexing. If one were writing a novel, one would consider injecting a speech writing mole who cleverly manipulated information and media reports in order to cause the candidate to implode at nearly the last moment. In retrospect it is bizarre: assuming that the campaign at the highest levels would know that they had something in store for Election Day, why would they risk it all in a state where auto jobs are paramount? Stupid? Yes. An accident? Maybe. Deliberate attempt to mislead? Almost certainly, but mislead whom? Proceed, Governor, to destroy your credibility with the masses one more time. I suppose that having Candy Crowley correct you did not teach you a lesson, so try another just to see what happens. I don't know...I find it all very strange, even as strange as everything else is.

So perhaps, just perhaps, the scab has been ripped off and the bleeding is profuse. We shall see if the electorate is slowly becoming conscious enough to comprehend the breadth and depth of the lies told to them by this particularly ugly, treacherous Machine since the campaign of 2000. My guess is that since the National Memory's half-life is about three days, the answe in the long run is no, they will not. But for now, we fought the good fight and won.
