The spouse of one of my employees, who had friended me on FB, posted a map of the election results with the key:

Red: Republican
Blue: Complete Morons

As an employer, I understand my responsibilities and limitations. As a humanist, I select the objects of my altruism carefully.

It is possible that this individual is reading this. Have a wonderful day.

They will vent for a little while longer...but this will pass for the most part I believe.

...I'm struck by the fact that you consider it altruism towards your employee to keep them in your employ. If the employee is productive and adds value to your business, I woudn't consider their employment altruism.

I also don't see how punishing this employee would be any different than the many right-wing employers that are threatening or claiming to fire employees due to President Obama's re-election.

YMMV.
