2016

This isn't really a poll....but I'd like to hear some names that people would like to see on the ticket in 2016.

Who I'd like to see (throwing names out there):
Brian Schweitzer (I think he would put the West in play -- and that would put the GOP in a HUGE bind)
Martin O'Malley
Al Franken
Ron Wyden
Elizabeth Warren (might not have enough experience but that could work to her benefit, especially seeing her record)
Russ Feingold (A longshot, unfortunately, unless he finds a way to get back into elective office)
Peter DeFazio (definite longshot but I'd like to see him run, at least)
Tammy Baldwin
Sherrod Brown
Mazie Hirono
Howard Dean
Mark Dayton

I'm hoping HRC doesn't run, because I assume that the field would be cleared (for all intents and purposes) for her, and I would like to see a wide open slate of candidates.

but they wouldn't win. We have to run a better candidate than a 3 or 4 term member of the House of Representatives. O'Malley or Patrick are the best after Hillary and Biden, and I don't think either of them will run.

Sun Nov 11, 2012, 07:45 AM

Hillary will be our next president Ms.45

It must be a woman
And you need to remember WHO is our party
Therefore, discount any white male, and any male in general unless a minority

Julian Castro needs to be governor first in Texas to turn it blue, and maybe be VP with hillary

Last thing we need is a far left person who will lose to Jeb in a landslide (that means Al Franken for one, who is also a white male, though a minority in that he is Jewish

As for some of the other names, WHO WHO WHO are they?

They have no national recognition and if they are currently seated, we MUST allow them to serve honorably in their current position

ESPECIALLY ELIZABETH WARREN-being that it is not assured she can run a national campaign, is the same age as Hillary(therefore it answers those ageism fanatics who will say Hillary is too old)) and well, compare the two, Hillary has 10000 times the resume.

As most know, I was NOT a fan of Hillary's in 2008 but she EARNED MY VOTE by her loyalty to our president Obama,
And by the great work she has done as perhaps one of the three greatest SOS of all time

PLUS it is obvious Bill 's help was enourmous during the 12 race

And the biggest plus?

A CLINTON DEFEATED A BUSH
AND JEB WILL BE THEIR CANDIDATE (running as a sane republican) in 2016(even though of course that is a lie)

All the others are vying for 2nd place

Btw- you also left out Mike Bloomberg from the list, who might entertain a VP nod if Hillary puts her prime residence down as DC or VA

And you also forgot Joe Biden

As for Russ "I'mma taking my ball and going home" Feingold, I have 2 words for him - one begins with F and the other is off. A pale vastly inferior Paul Wellstone. Goodbye Russ

And on your list, you forgot a whole bunch of black candidates like
Cory Booker
Deval Patrick
and the shining star of the democratic party
None other than
Michelle Obama (though I think 2024 after Hillary is more likely).

And Hillary's first job in 2017 will be to nominate Barack Obama for the US Supreme court and someday make him chief justice after Roberts is gone.

And I mentioned prior Julian Castro

Your list is oddly missing the vast core of Obama's base, and one which history will need to be repeated again and again and leave the same old same old to the republicans.

Btw-we won the west big time
Just a few small electoral vote states
and we will win Texas with either a woman and possibly Gov. Castro on the ticket

I am a post 2008 supporter, was not prior to her job now[

But when she runs against Jeb, all th baggage is already out there
There is nothing left to hide

Whereas all the others have hidden baggage
Especially Andrew Cuomo\

It all depends if you want a vanity candidate or one who can do what it takes to win
And most of the names on that list above are not natoinal candidates and won't be nominated

Charlie Crist would be a good vp candidate though he has some baggage

6. Snipergate is a smear on Clinton

Nov 2012

Apparently when she was in Croatia or Bosnia or someplace like that in the 90s, doing a morale tour of the troops, someone told her there might be some snipers around, and so she ducked getting off the tarmac and making it to her car. In a presser, she once recounted this as there actually being a sniper there, an understandable misinterpretation of one event on a very busy day. Some of the troops around there at the time say there weren't any snipers, that the army wouldn't have exposed the First Lady to that kind of risk.

That's it: a he said/she said about an incident in the mid 90s that probably took all of 5 minutes to transpire. Obviously it's not a "Gate" at all.

I was vehemently against Clinton getting the nomination in 2008. If she runs in 2016, which I doubt, I'll almost certainly back someone else. That said, her misremembering a tiny incident a few minutes in duration from 12 years before is ridiculously inconsequential in the face of her years of public service on numerous fronts. She's been under figurative sniper fire from the moment her husband was elected governor 30 years ago. The fact that her memory would scramble events in entering a literal battle zone is normal psychological fuzziness of minor events.

We all do that, by the way. If I asked you this year about a minor moment from your life in 2000 during a time that you were under a lot of stress, you would probably get serious details wrong too. It's how the human brain works. Trying to spin this as some sort of lie/conspiracy/character flaw, or anything worthy of the suffix "Gate" is partisan hackery.

she made multiple statements that were nowhere near the truth

If there were some time in her life when she had to run for armored vehicles due to sniper fire, and just confused exactly when that was, then you could say it was an honest mistake. It wasn't.

She can't ever be Commander In Chief after those statements.

This is pretty much the same path that Hillary followed, running for Senate in Bill's last year as President. It would nullify the "experience" argument before 2024. (Funny how no one ever brought up "experience" this time around, when Obama had the greatest experience possible and Mitt had just 4 failed years in politics to run on.)

Michelle is doing too good of a job making that one of the warmest public families under the Sun. And, no it's not sexist. She's kind of like our Nurturer in Chief.

Preference for POTUS is HRC, but she has had to deal with sexism and faux gay bigotry even beyond the racism of Obama. I have no doubt she can get the nomination if she wants it. But the long knives will be out in even a more brutal way.

Franken, Grayson, Baldwin, and Dean (out of the names I recognize) will lose in a landslide. Castro and Booker would both be good choices if they ever become governors or Senators. Lots of names that I personally would like but, they could not win nationally.

Dems really need to be realistic in who can win, not who we just "like".

Unfortunately, I still do not believe that having a woman on the ticket, makes it a winnable one (oh boy, ducking the flaming arrows!). NOTHING against our women...I would LOVE to see a female President AND VP of the United States in my lifetime.

BUT...let's be realistic.

I think a Governor has the best chance, but can't think of any right now that really fit the bill. It's four years away and we have 2014 and and a long hard road ahead of us right now.

"Don't trust this guy at all!".

He really reminds me of a guy I knew many years ago whose only ambition in life was to get into politics. Party, principles, people nothing mattered at all to him beyond his raging, unquenchable ambition. Fortunately, while he had the looks, he lacked the intellect and cunning to see how the real jackals in his chosen world wound him up and killed him for their own ambitions.

Lat time I saw him he was a very bitter audio store manager in LA.

ANY left-of-center, "old," non-dlc/corporate/3rd way/ "new" Democrat.

You know.

A Democrat who will stop trying to further privatize things, and excise the privatization tumors that have choked us since RR.

A Democrat who will invest in domestic priorities instead of funding the MIC.

A Democrat who will reject "free" trade in all it's incarnations, embracing FAIR trade with labor and environmental standards.

A Democrat who will fight for universal, not-for-profit health CARE.

A Democrat who will kick the billionaire ed deformers to the curb and put education in the hands of educators.

I could go on, but those examples make it clear enough.
