Cantor & FBI "whistle-blower"

Cantor’s chief of staff, Steve Stombres, later spoke with FBI officials to pass on the accusations from the whistle-blower, the New York Times reported on Saturday night.

The Obama administration has been beleaguered with leaks and in June of this year Holder started an investigation into where some of these leaks are coming from.

This article from Politico refers to the FBI agent as a whistle-blower but this wasn't whistle-blowing at all--he was leaking information to Rep. David Reichert (R-Wash.) of all people. Why didn't the agent go directly to his boss--did the agent truly fear being fired for knowing this information? And how did this agent come across this information? Why is this agent leaking information to Rep. David Reichert (R-Wash.) of all people? After Reichert informed Cantor, why didn't Cantor inform the White House?

It seems obvious to me after reading about this why all these leaks are happening. It seems as though there are people within the government and law enforcement that are attempting to undermine Barack Obama's presidency and doing so by leaking information--whether it be classified or sensitive. This agent should be fired for what he did and if Cantor didn't feel the need to share this information with the White House, what other information has been leaked to him that isn't being passed on? The teabaggers, now that they've lost their bid to get Pres. Obama fired, need to start putting country before party. Their obstinence and obstruction make them look like the unpatriotic, sore losers they are.

on the repub side that would have canceled this out, but has not surfaced yet. If Cantor could have gotton something out of this, he would have used it, the Nation's security be damned.

What if he would have somehow hurt HIS reelection efforts? That can be about the only reason I can see him keeping this to himself unless he didn't want to hurt fellow republic Patraeus.

I seem to recall Cheney bragging about having close connections to insiders...I don't recall how that slipped out, but have always wondered how much he knows and how often he has used it in his sneaky "Plame" way since leaving office.

Does he still get information/briefings? If so, I'm sure his daughter and wife would also be able to peruse them.

Obviously, I don't trust anyone from that abode.

You also answered my question of why Obama would allow this, but now I remember how they worked that.

Cheney thought he'd have access to a good deal of the workings so he could monitor.

How long is the guarantee on that machine of his? Is he on his second or third year?

for some time.

I hope that he is investigated and stripped of a couple of his stars.

I'm sad to read that Hilary has fairly consistently sided with Patraeus and Gates and shares their neocon point if view. Obama in his idealism surrounded himself with people who did not mean him well and sought to undermine his goals.

Knew about the investigation for "some months".

This is pure speculation at this point, but, release of the information now may be an indication of a hissyfit in the former Romney camp to the effect, "You made us take Ryan! If we had the General we wuddah won! Waaaa!", or something.

Makes sense, tho.

I have been thinking about this since I read it. Dave Reichert is the guy who worked on green river killer case for over 20 years and finally caught the guy. That's why he is popular here. He has a ton of friends and contacts in FBI.

I mentioned that in another thread.

Reichert is the GRK leadn detective. Dude has always liked having his face on teevee. And he certainly knows many, many people in the FBI.

Interesting to follow out his connection to all this. Why pass this on to Cantor? What a weird decision.
