Florida voters came through, and did more than turn the State blue:

They ousted establishment candidates, including incumbent Scott Plakon in Seminole County and former legislator Bob Brooks' comeback attempt in Orange.

And in the most remarkable event in the entire state, Seminole County voters appear to have ousted House speaker-to-be Chris Dorworth — from a district that was specifically drawn to keep him safe, stocked with 25 percent more Republicans than Democrats.

snip

Voters also rejected eight of the 11 verbose constitutional amendments the Legislature proposed — making exceptions only to provide help to disabled veterans, the elderly poor and widowed spouses of first responders.

And they voted to retain the three Supreme Court justices whom legislators wanted gone simply because these justices had forced politicians to play by the rules.

Problem is that turnout is always lower in off year elections. The FL Dem Party must start now organizing to GOTV. We can turn FL into a blue state! If that happens it is game over given its size. The FDP, unfortunately, is one of the worst state parties in the Union. I give most credit to Obama For America.

However, neither party ever holds anyone accountable....republicans don't believe in it and Democrats are afraid of it. Do you think Nancy Pelosi would have gone along with throwing Charlie Rangel to the dogs if she didn't know he was in a safe district? She miscalculated with Anthony Weiner, but received a reprieve last week. Meanwhile, the deplorable Alcee Hastings was just reelected in his safe Democratic district. The man is a disgrace and has been in congress since his district was created after the census of 1990. Just saying...

Not aimed at you, lpbk2713, but I am amazed at the DUers who keep pushing Crist as our next governor candidate worthy of Democratic support while so many hate Rubio for his association with Jeb Bush.

Crist is as much a Jeb Bush disciple as Rubio is - why would ANY Democrat want to put Crist back in Tallahassee in a position of power? I'm going to be a broken record about this. I hated Crist as governor. Yes, Scott is worse but Crist is NOT a remedy.

We Floridians need to look for a real Democratic candidate to support and we need to find one SOON.

And since we can hope there will be a huge mid-term turnout to DUMP Scott, we need to push for throwing out as many Republican and Tea Party Representatives as possible! We can give President Obama a more responsive Congress for his last two years in office if we work hard enough!

Clelland only won by 123 votes. I think Dorworth just figured he'd win because it's Seminole County (As Jim Phillips on 104.1 said, "You could run a turd with an "R" stamped on it and it would win in Seminole county&quot . A lot of credit goes to Clelland's ground game here. More than a month before the election, Mike's brother, Steve, knocked on my door asking for my vote and asking me to spread the word and get others involved. I, personally, convinced three friends who weren't planning on voting to do so (They all voted straight Dem, too).

My wife is from upstate NY and in the past has asked me why I don't want to move up there. Part of the reason is the weather. The other part of the reason is that my vote is best spent here in FL.

An exclusive Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9 poll of likely voters along the Interstate 4 corridor finds Romney leading Obama 51 percent to 45 percent, with 4 percent undecided.

"Romney has pretty much nailed down Florida," said Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, which conducted the poll for the Times and its media partners. "Unless something dramatically changes — an October surprise, a major gaffe — Romney's going to win Florida.''

...

"Being that this is I-4, the Florida battleground, the region of the state that usually tells you how it's going to come out, for Romney to be up 6 points right now … they should be able to call Florida as soon as the polls close in Pensacola if they do their exit polling right," Coker said.

The voters of Florida made the country aware of the extreme efforts made by "elected" officials to suppress their vote ... and they voted.

Florida voters made their voices heard ... despite extreme efforts to stifle their voices.

I can't tell you how insane this whole election makes the red opposition, but I'm sure you've read about it on here or have seen it in your state too. These are the same people who fought Bill Clinton and hate every fiber in his body. They hate how he took the best ideas from both parties and made them work for the country. And the more the country succeeded, the more they hated him.

So this is how I now gauge whether we're on the right track. We must be, if that measure is any yard stick. And by the looks of the progress we've made coming out of a near depression and all completely without their help, proves it.

Thank you Floridians, for sticking it out in those long lines and sacrificing for the greater good. Keep up the fight for America and all our futures, red state & blue state, will be brighter.

The images coming out of your state showing the sacrifices you made, leading to the positive results that ensued, underscores how important it is to demand our RIGHT to vote. Voting is not "a privilege", it is a RIGHT. There are 4 Constitutional Amendments that emphasize that RIGHT and we have to keep reminding the Constitution-waving loons, about that fact.

So happy that the Supreme Court justices will be able to rule on the state workers' 3% of pay taken by Scott beginning last July. State workers won the first round, and Scott appealed to the Supreme Court. Then he tried to switch out the judges. So very grateful that the people of Florida did not fall for it, and voted "yes" to retain them. Three percent might not sound like much, but between that money and no raise in years, so many of us are unable to keep up with our bills. The cost of living in Florida has skyrocketed as it has everywhere else.

Sun Nov 11, 2012, 11:18 AM
Nov 2012

I haven't seen this kind of repudiation of "political think" since Reagan. Look at what happened around the country...marriage equality was approved in (I think) 4 states after going 32-0 for the last few years. Two states legalized marijuana, without the "for medical use" excuse. It's now OK for adults to spark one up just 'cause. Democrats didn't lose a single seat in the Senate, and picked up 2 more. While most of the tea-baggers did get re-elected to the House, a couple of the WORST got the boot, specifically Joe Walsh and Alan West, and Bachmann only won by the skin of her teeth. Barack won by a margin in the electoral college that Bush could only dream of. Voter suppression attempts were shot down. SO MUCH of the Tea Party/Republican bullshit was just plain faced down.,

This election was historical, and not just because the first African-American President was re-elected, which, as we all know, was harder than getting him elected. The way the country is thinking has changed. More people are turning away from the "me first and only" meme of the Republicans, and realizing we are all together in this. As Obama says so often, "This is the United States of America!"

I'm already enjoying looking forward to 2016 when our economy is strong, our people are healthier, our schools have better funding, our soldiers are home, and either Hillary or Joe have BOTH Obama and Big Dawg stumping for them.

my county went entirely red. BUT, the races were closer than ever before. So I have hope. Regarding the 2014 governor's race, Crist is a problem. His third-party candidacy in 2010 gave us Rubio instead of Kendrick Meek as our second senator. If Crist runs as a Democrat, his "flip-flop" of three different party affiliations in as many years will most likely clinch his defeat. So we have to have a very strong opponent if there's a primary. Scott has to go, and he's extremely weak on the popularity scale, so a pretty easy target!

Time and again, the voters said: No more. Clean up your act. You can no longer steamroll me or my rights — no matter how many perks and donations Walt Disney, Big Sugar and the trial lawyers provide for you.

The incumbents who survived had better pay attention — because many of them are the enablers.

And if voters got the low-hanging fruit this year, they seem ready to harvest the entire tree.

Tuesday was a good day for common-sense conservatives. And Democrats. And anyone who wants to take this state back.

Tuesday was a good day for democracy in Florida.[/
