Has a personality ever canceled an ADVERTISER to save his reputation?

It is generally the other way around, where an advertiser drops the personality when they misbehave. Some reecnt examples are Michael Vick and Lance Armstrong. I am trying to think of a case where a personality decided he or she had to drop and advertiser because the advertiser was becoming bad for the personality's reputation, and therefore does harm to the personality's "brand".

Peyton Manning is in that situation right now. That pap John's schmuck is nothing in the big scheme of things to manning. Manning doesn't need him. Manning has worked very hard and smartly to cultivate the wholesome image he has. Dude even has his own children's hospital. How awesome is that?

He needs to drop Papa John's. We need to let him know that:

1) He shouldn't be advertising for assholes.

2) A guy with his own children's hospital should not be supporting a jerk who wants to cut his employees out of health care benefits for a freaking 14 cents per pizza.

My question is how one could go about making this happen. It seems to me that it would be better to approach Manning's agent before trying some national boycott. Manning is not the bad guy here. Or maybe he is. He recently bought 21 Papa John's stores.

Maybe we could get Manning to make a public statement that he actually cares abut his employees more than a damn 14 cents per pizza.

Any ideas?

The entire reason for being of the Republican party is antithetical to the teachings of Christ. If he's a Republican, then he's a pseudo-Christian. No real belief in God.

I make that point regularly (and loudly) to ReTHUGlikkklans. My preferred term of endearment to those who have betrayed their heritage for a mess of 'I want some of that; maybe if I kiss ass on rich folks some of it might rub off' - gaaahhh!

Church's are very good at rationalizing every possible behavior as being somehow compatible with Jesus.

But then, she is a liberal with a conscience and isn't all about the money.

Peyton Manning is who he is. If people write to him, maybe he'll pay attention and drop Papa Johns...or maybe he'll pay attention and double down against the lib'rul bleeding hearts.

Boycott Papa Johns. If enough pizza eaters go elsewhere, the jobs will follow them and Papa Johns' employees won't have to work for that asshole any more.

I can't find anything on the exact numbers but their franchisee recruiting page says the company is an "owner and franchisor". For 50k you to can be a local papa john's dealer.

As a franchisee, I think Manning has a variety of standards he has to meet like production quality, store sanitation & appearance, and work process stuff (how they answer the phones, how they greet people, etc).

As I understand franchises, the home office specifically stays away from any and all personnel stuff...hire/fire, salary, benefits, etc. This is specifically delegated to the franchisee to insulate the home office from any responsibility for these folks. When you work at a papa john's...you work for the franchisee, not the "company".

That responsibility cuts two ways. When the CEO says he's going to cut hours to avoid health care, he can affect that change at the company stores but (in most cases) he can not dictate how any individual franchisee handles health care at his or her franchise locations.

May be different today but that's my take from having looked around at several franchises 8-10 years ago (although not papa johns).

If there were a way to educate him on this, he might come out and take a stand for the health care of his employees.

He put millions into that hospital. Why would he want to have a reputation of being against good health? It makes no sense. Why would you do that to your employees for 14 cents a pizza? And here's a clue, you do that to your employees and they will cost you a lot more than 14 cents because they treat the employer the same way the employer treats the employee.

I bet one phone call from Manning to that asshole would make him stop that policy. In fact, I don't believe Papa Johns will actually do that anyway. You need good motivated employees to make a business work. Jerk them around, cutting their hours like that and you won't have much of a work force. The guy is just talking BS -- just like those other asshats that say if Obama is reelected they won't continue to expand their businesses.

detergent he was spokesman for, but forced the company to make and air commercials in which he apologized for selling environmentally harmful crap.
More recently Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander returned a one million dollar fee to KFC and negotiated the end of his commercials for them due to their poor treatment of the chickens they use.
I can tell you this, as a non sports fan, Manning is one of the few that does ads well, and he'd be an idiot to spend his potential on John. I did not know who Mannnig was until his auto ads, sort of liked him. Now I hate his greedy guts. Any car he promots must suck rotten eggs, as does the pizza and his politics of greed.
