(2,315 posts)Somehow the "born again" wingnuts manage to work their presumed ownership of religion into everything.
Here we have one of them proselytizing in public.
They expect to engage, have the first word, and through intimidation also have the last word.
Polite citizens have been taught to smile and walk away.
Enough is enough. They need to finally understand that they do not own the airwaves, nor do they own the sidewalks.
The response from the poster was superb. The friend should learn from this.

(15,661 posts)And, in fact, made a reply on a friend's wall on FB in response to comments that did exactly what you said. Tried to "own" religious belief and morality. I've had enough, and that attitude is insulting to me and the people who made me who I am, so I took on 2 men I went to high school with and had a 7 post volley in which I said more in 2 post than they could say in 5. My posts were also supported by various people passing by and met with great appreciation by the friend whose FB page it was.

(10,597 posts)""Ive seen God, she's black, and I'm Catholic".! Really...when the Mormans or Evangelicals come to my door, I smile sweetly, take their literature, look at it, and hand it back to them while telling them I am Catholic. They are away from my door in about 2 seconds.

(32,723 posts)One Saturday night he hooked up with two women at the bar and they went back to his place for fun and frivolity.
Sunday morning he was awakened by a knock on the door. He carefully got up so as not to wake the two women naked in his bed and wrapped a sheet around himself and answered the door. It was two Jehovah's Witnesses who said, "Pardon us for waking you sir but did you know Jesus Christ is alive and well and living on the planet earth?"
He realized how he looked with his long hair and beard wrapped in that sheet and said, "Yes, I know, my son." and closed the door on two very startled and puzzled faces.

(2,959 posts)the election. A core group of about 10 posted about "voting for Christian candidates" and "know which candidates Jesus would vote for". But since the election hardly a peep. maybe some of them have been raptured.

(1,217 posts)didn't like Romney either because Mormonism is a cult in their beliefs. But they are terrified of Obama. Filled with hate and fear combined with religious superiority. They seem to be going into end-of-the-world bunker mode.

(81,350 posts)Love it! Wonder if some of this "fucking with their heads" might actually crack one or two of them open, at long last? When the actual honest-to-God light-of-day reality that burns into their eyes and ears conflicts with everything they were told? Most of 'em will go "TILT!" but I bet maybe one or two of them might stop a moment to think. Maybe?

(1,383 posts)Maybe a few, but like my brother said to my progressive bro-in-law after the election...."Judgement is coming." But, even if a few begin to think, good for us and the country. Thankful for the DU community to lift my spirits. Have a good day!

(81,350 posts)And we're all still standing, still breathing, still talking, still eating, still making do, still working, still playing, still burping and farting, still enjoying music or a good book or our favorite TV show, still enjoying our favorite movies, still complaining, still believing, still lapping up the sex scandals, still going to church on Sunday, still out walking our dogs, still going to the grocery store, still enjoying a beautiful day, still admiring the stars at night, still doing laundry and washing the dishes, still feeding the cats, still falling asleep in front of the TV, still loving desserts, still waking up in the morning and going to bed at night... AND still standing tall - maybe even taller as of this election - in the eyes of the rest of the world (well, except maybe in Pakistan).

I've been sick of their bullshite ever since they stole our country from under us in 2000 and I'll continue on the offensive until they keep their stupid rhetoric to themselves.

(9,644 posts)What are these fuckwads whining about? Our voting system worked. The will of the American people has been done. Why do these miscreants always have to drag their gods into this equation?
And you are 100% right. If in fact god had anything at to do with it, then these dipsticks should respect his will and move forward to help build the country. Instead they are planting the seeds of discontent and paving the way for their own self-fulfilling doom and gloom by going against the will of god! They are heretics and hypocrites.

(16,230 posts)A mainstream protestant Christian is running against a Mormon. The mainstream Christian wins and they think God has turned his back on America?
I know that for some insane convoluted batshit reason they think that the President is a Muslim, but then you'd think that a true believer would reject both candidates and go for some third party candidate that shares their beliefs. True believing fundamentalism doesn't leave room for political pragmatism.

(6,335 posts)Those are Greek gods right? Did they warn them about the false gods? Sounds like a lot in Christianity was borrowed from Greeks.

(12,471 posts)That Jesus just left, after he cleaned up the leaves (seasonally adjusted for my gardener) and if they want to follow him, I can give them a phone number.
Sometimes I inform them that god is nothing more than dog spelled backwards. I let them know that they are quite welcome to believe their fairy tales about an old bearded white man in the sky, talking snakes, and the rest, but I gave up believing fairy tales when I was about twelve.
Whether it's friends, family, or strangers (the stranger the better), they generally leave me alone about that garbage.

(45,558 posts)Second, does that mean Christians don't believe in the new covenant that Jesus talked about...
Seriously, they love the Old Testament, Vault over the Gospel's and land in Revelations.

There is no heaven and there is no hell.
There is only our real, natural world all around us.
Religion is but myth and superstition.
Religious conviction hardens hearts.
Religious faith enslaves minds.
