1. A shout goes out, but the real heroes are our troops, veterans, and emergency responders.

Without them, we wouldn't exist as a country. I agree that voting is a civic duty, but less than half of eligible voters even bother. That's not good.

And yet, we've got thousands of veterans on the streets and in homeless shelters. The suicide rate is profoundly disturbing. If we can't care for our veterans and first responders, how can we care for our country? Hell, my (perhaps future son-in-law) is in the army and he's got to by his own fucking patches for his uniform. That's just wrong. That's so wrong.

On Edit: I know because he was just promoted from PFC to Specialist.

4. The way our veterans are treated in this country

should be a national disgrace, and I blame the repukes for this, they cut the budget for the VA. We need single payer, free mental health care for our veterans, a massive jobs program that will put not only returning vets back to work, but all americans who want a job back to work.
Please don't get me started on how the repukes fucked this country up for the vets. and left Obama holding the bag.
Tell your (perhaps future son-in-law) to stay safe and keep his head down and his powder dry.

6. Um, powder? It doesn't work that way anymore. He's a great kid.

"Kid", shit, he's 23 now. He's still a kid in my eyes, but a damn good one. And he loves my eldest daughter and treats her well.

when we would cross rivers, the saying went, keep your rifles up and your powder dry.

8. The saying pre-dates the Revolution - by centuries.

By the way, did you know that duck tape was originally green and was commissioned specifically to keep ammo boxes sealed and dry during WW-II? It had to be strong, waterproof, easy to tear, and easy to remove. That's where it came from. And the only thing you CAN'T use duck tape for is DUCTS! It is useless in that capacity. It is good for keeping rusting cars together (and will get them through inspection).

I didn't know that about duct tape, I call it 100 mph tape, you can duct tape anything to a car, go a 100mph and it will still be there.

10. Yep. I put red duct tape on my trashcans so I can identify them.

It's a common type of can around here and after a good wind (common occurrence) they all end up in other people's yards. I wrote our address on the tape. It's saved me from buying new cans every year.

5. TRUE!!!! I can't imagine people like Romney standing in line for hours to vote.

The 1% like things easy. And they're used to it that way.

I am in awe of the people who stood in line for so long. I don't know if I could have done that (I get sorta dizzy if I stand up for a long time).
