Repubs want everyone to believe that nothing has changed with the election...

They are still living in a world of delusion.

The Democrats gained seats in both the House and Senate and won the White House by a landslide proportion.

Nothing will change unless the Democrats do not want it to change. Will they be extorted once again by the criminals in the House? Or will the White House stand up to them this time?

Yes, they can make all kinds of threats. They will let the economy go off the fiscal cliff. They will not approve of raising the debt limit once again. They have a lot of no good they can do.

It could be argued that the President had to extend the Bush taxcuts the last time around because of the threats they made not to extend unemployment. Maybe they will make the same threat again?

If the President does nothing again and if Senator Reid does not change the filibuster rules in the Senate, then maybe, nothing has changed??

Another duer put it colorfully, but it is true. These current House repugs are fiscal terrorists, and are trying to get what they want through despicable tactics. Don't reward them. Don't negotiate with fiscal terrorists. (by the way the "fiscal" part of that term is my own invention)

if he wants to help the American people.

When he gets up in the morning, make it his duty to tell the American people what these no-account, good-for-nothings are doing. Use the bully pulpit to defeat them in 2014 and then something might get done? That would leave him two years. Otherwise, it's going to be another 4 years of the same crapola.

They can change the Senate rules by a simple majority when the new Senate convenes...if they want to?

since there were about 22 Democrats running for re-election and only about 10 Repubs. The rules would then apply to Democrats also.

On one hand, there was this spiel about this being a monumental "Do or Die" election. But since they didn't win it, they are walking this monumental claim back as best they can.

Did you see this excellent post by Dragonfli? http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021791044#post12 Our greatest danger comes from corporatists within our own party, who would argue us into passivity...again.

It's time to stop legitimizing the right-wing propaganda, no matter who is shoveling it. It is time to expose and label it for what it is.
