Guess what, guys and gals, America no longer cares what you "think" or pretend to think. We were always suspicious of you,
in my political lifetime dating back to Hugh Sidey and his ilk attending dinner parties thrown by elected officials whom they were covering. But nonetheless, you were often given a free pass in this regard, since you were all so "distinguished and urbane" and educated at University.
But those days are over. Most of you are no longer to be trusted: many of you act as stenographers for the Right Wing Establishment, and you know who you are. You are in bed with the wealthy, the tycoons, the controlling interests who utterly and completely lack altruism in any form. Even when they are associated with charities it is often because some ill has befallen themselves or someone in their family, not to mention the tax deductions and the positive publicity which may be rehabilitative following some public relations disaster. So you dutifully write their memes, no matter how contrary to the truth or how negatively it impacts society.
So you have metamorphosed into the caricature of the old lazy sportswriter who would go to the bar, watch the game on television, and write his column as the all-knowing observer. Your performances in this election cycle were reprehensible, and that is a kind word for your complete and utter lack of insight, poor reportage of the higher order truth, and general laziness. No wonder the newspapers are going out of business, it would be easier and cheaper to hire a court reporter who could simply transcribe the sayings of the political fathers.
Oh, you are seeking an example? All right, tell us after the fact, how you could have allowed that outrageously dissembling and aggressive performance by your friend Mr. Romney in the first debate to be reported as a win? He lied. About almost everything. But he banged the table and you liked that...you enjoyed that because you a closet abusers yourselves. You are frustrated, sad, wistful wannabes who are insanely jealous of Bob Woodward, not because of his inside Gets, but of his money and his access to the public stage. Those of us who were around for his Watergate days recall that he was used by the powers that be to eliminate Nixon from the stage border for the real Revolution to take place. Nixon, unlike Reagan and his successors, was not a rubber stamp President and was too bright, yes too bright, to be allowed to continue in office.
And that is the crux of the matter: the reason you hated Clinton, hate Obama, and generally hate intellectuals is that they show you up to be the inadequate folk which you secretly are. As victims of what used to be called The Impostor Phenomenon, you know exactly where you stand in the intellectual hierarchy. The RW plays into this dramatic lack which you possess. It is a shame, but one group is very pleased with your plight. Liquor salespeople. Many of you make the Mad Men cast look like rank amateurs. I know, I treat many of you in my practice and there is a fair amount of consumption per capita. I don't blame you.
If I did my job as poorly as you do, I'd drink too.

(27,985 posts)Dissembling is a word that goes straight up my spine and makes my teeth hurt. I've been having the problem since the early days of the Bush Maladministration. A word that means the same thing that doesn't make my jaw ache is "lying". Ironically, it's just a more truthful word.
Otherwise, spot on!
