Thunder heads all around here but it's still pretty smoky, it fades a little sometimes. We had rain come through on the first day of the plume and it didn't make a bit of difference other than it got darker with the clouds overhead.

Hope it clears off soon and rain come to put those fires out.

Our fire season, in normal times, is just getting ready to spark up.

All the way down in Colorado. The air quality here is terrible right now. I'm sure it's worse north of here.

When she was on a freelance assignment to South Texas.

This was when the Mexican government and Chiapas were at each other's throats. One of them started setting fire to various fields, primarily those of marijuana growers, and the smoke from that came up to where we were in Texas so strongly that it triggered a severe allergic outbreak for my husband. A local GP pumped him with the equivalent of 4 benadryl to calm down the symptoms long enough for him to get well enough to travel again. The smoke inhalation didn't do me many favors, either,. My throat hurt for over a month after we got home.

Stay safe, and keep the benadryl handy if you're prone to allergies at all.

Once some decades back and very little compared to you all...

Smoke from Kentucky fires drifted up to NYC. Made the sky some what hazy. The standout was the ambient faint to mild smokey smell wherever you went.

That definitely weird since we knew no major fires were happening in the city, or across in nearby NJ.

Good Luck all of you in Canada, and your US area!

Oof. I’m sorry. We get a lot of your smoke. So far not bad but we do obsess. I wish countries would get together and throw everything they’ve got at these fires. I’m sending whatever quenching vibes I can.

We'd often send fire crews to Washington State to help out and they would work our fires.

Other countries do come to the US to fight bad fires, have for years. I have met a number of Canadian fire fighters during the years I lived near a smoke jumper base and when I worked with USDAFS.

Here's a Canadian AF water scooper/deHaviland right after a water drop on a major fire in YNP a few years ago.

26. Edmonton air quality presents very high health risk, disrupts long-weekend plans

Severe smoke blanketing Edmonton has disrupted long-weekend plans and sparked health concerns.

Hot and dry conditions are challenging Alberta firefighters this weekend, as thick wildfire smoke settles over Edmonton and surrounding areas.

On Saturday, the air quality health index (AQHI) was at 10+ — very high risk, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, which is forecasting similarly high levels of smoke pollution through the weekend.

snip

But when the AQHI is at 10+, it's really best for everyone to try to stay indoors as much as possible with the windows closed, said Dr. Courtney Howard, a Yellowknife-based emergency physician who looks at the health impacts of wildfires.

the inversion layer seems to have lifted so the smoke has dissipated a lot here. There is still some but much more tolerable this morning, I hope it continues to get better and we get some rain.

I see it in the sky here in MI, sadly.

High level haze for the past few days. We don’t even get to see the sunset here.
