(86,647 posts)Finally, the House is starting to look like the America it is supposed to represent. Only just starting, though. If none of those listed definitions were for only one person, women could also be African Americans or another ethnicity etc., so ideally it would be 147 but I'm sure it's less due to doubling. which means the rest would be the same old Wonder Bread brand with all those angry white church guys.

(400 posts)During her first term as Speaker, Nancy Pelosi got 308 bills through the House that became law.
During her second term, Speaker Pelosi got 258 bills through the House that became law.
That's 550 laws, some of which were the gymnast's equivalent of a double back with a double twist. We're talking about the stimulus, ethics reform, financial reform, minimum wage increase, repeal of DADT, fair pay for women, and much more.
In contrast, John Boehner got just 12 bills through so far (at the time the article was posted), and at this rate Boehner is on track to claim a mere 48 bills by the end of the term.

(10,597 posts)for this beautiful quote and photo from Nancy. Yes, the democratic caucus looks just like the convention did in Charlotte... a beautiful rainbow of representation in the US House. I am so proud of the Democratic party!

(10,044 posts)She has a very soft pleasant voice - but means business. She is the perfect counterpart to:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - soft pleasant voice - also means business...

(39,909 posts)The only important thing is HOW THEY VOTE.
I know I will be the minority voice here on this issue,
but Diversity, in and of itself, is NOT a wise goal.
Remember,
Clarence Thomas is black.
Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin are women.
I want my political representatives First & Foremost to be Junk Yard Dog FIGHTERS for the traditional Democratic Party Values of FDR & LBJ.
I would support a completely homogenous Congress of Purple People Eaters with Red Hair from Planet Zenon IF they:
*Restored the Tax and Trade Policies of the 60s
*Passed REAL Publicly Owned, Government Administered Universal Health Care
*Busted Up the Too Big to Fails
*Restored Glass Steagall, and put it on steroids
*Restored Fair Competition Regulation so Mom & Pop could compete with WalMart (Big Boxes) on a level playing field
*Cut Defense Spending by 75%
*Worked to retard Climate Change
*Ended the War on Drugs and the Private Prison Industry
There are a few more, but I'll settle for the above for starters.
