China to Unveil Low-Cost Drone

China will present a new low-cost drone made locally at the aeronautical fair that will open this week in the southern province of Canton, the South China Morning Post reported Sunday.

The Wing Loong, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), will be manufactured by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

With the new drone, China will make its debut in the UAV market with a model whose price is far below that of similar aircraft made by the United States or Israel, the only two countries that currently have this technology.

The Wing Loong, the newspaper says, is very similar to the U.S.-made MQ-9 Reaper, although – with regard to size – it is more similar to the MQ-1 Predator.
