YEAH! Build that wall!

I've been saying it for years. If the RW is so damn concerned about illegal immigration, why are they focused on Mexico? The US - Canadian border is the longest unprotected border in the world.

Hmmm - - unless there's some other factor at play here.

Do you know their national origin of most people who enter the US witout permission?

Most 'illegal' aliens in the U.S. are people who came here with valid visas, and then stayed after those visas expired; students, workers, visiting relatives, etc.

17. That's visa overstays, not illegal border crossings.

You were discussing fences, which do nothing to deter visa overstays.

18. I didn't mention fences. You used the term 'illegal border crossings'

I mentioned visa overstays and posted the link to demonstrate that border fences won't solve the problem of illegal immigrants.

among wacko rightwingers aghast at the pitiful performance of mittens I think Canada may be considering building the wall to keep them from trying to sneak across for the Government provided healthcare.

...from Canada. Both are now legal. Oddly enough, it was incredibly easy for them to 'fix' their situation. No threat of deportation. No fines. Nothing. Just 'sign here'. Glad they got to stay, but something about the whole thing bugs me.

I think they just like it here for some reason. I never asked. She had been my best friend for 5 years before I even knew. I knew the musician for about 4 years before I knew about him.

Her story was complicated. His wasn't.

What status where they in when they crossed the border and into what status did they sign here into? When did it happen?

15. One moved here with her mother when she was 16.

Apparently, her father (mom's ex-husband) was abusive and was threatening their lives, etc. Mom took off across the border to stay with friends. Never left.

The other is a musician that came here to play with some friends he had met while touring a few years before. Never left.

I have no idea how to answer the rest of your question, but they both got legal status about 5ish years ago. She had been here approx. 30 years, he had only been here about 3 or so.

I honestly don't know the whole legal story behind either. Just glad they got to stay. The first one was SOBBING and absolutely terrified that she would be sent back. The musician wasn't too concerned, but he didn't want to leave (he's one of those that is actually never concerned about anything )

She's doing really well, trying to start up her own business. I haven't heard from the musician in a couple of years, but through the grapevine, heard he's married and in a touring band, finally.

But Canadians aren't attempting to come to the US. In fact, they are straightening their borders in attempt to keep unwanted Americans out.
