What I want to know is, why didn't Cantor didn't also go to the congressional security committee or even the White House?

The FBI agent that went to Cantor do so "unofficially". Cantor's office labeled the FBI agent as a "whistleblower". Tell Cantor was, apparently, politically motivated. If that is NOT the case, someone please correct.

One FBI agent who was on a mission went to a Congressman who then went to Cantor. The renegade agent didn't know that the investigation was conducted (completed) and there was no national security issue. The agent was apparently full of himself and I understand he has now been removed or disciplined or fired or something.

If that one agent had not gone to a member of congress, thus widening the number of people who knew about Director Petraeus and Paula, I don't believe the WH would have ever been told about the matter and Petraeus would not have been forced to resign.

I believe that single agent actually did us a favor but that was not his intent.

Mon Nov 12, 2012, 12:51 PM
Nov 2012

So, why did the rogue FBI employee go to Reichert?

Reichert probably has more connections with the FBI than anybody in Congress. Reichert was the lead detective on the Green River Killer case, and worked with the FBI for 20 years on that. He was later Sheriff of King County.

So, an FBI employee who almost certainly knew and associated with Dave Reichert told Reichert about this investigation. Reichert, rather than immediately reporting a leak about an ongoing FBI investigation with national security implication back to the FBI, instead brought his friend to Eric Cantor.

Cantor, for his part, did the right thing: he reported the leak back to the FBI.

Reichert, on the other hand, may have some criminal liability in this matter. He surely knew the protocol.

Best explanation I've seen. I know about Reichert but hadn't realized he was the same guy who caught the Green River Killer.

I live in the PNW so he was a hero around here for some time.

IIRC he is very partisan - embraced Bush's policies.....

Mon Nov 12, 2012, 12:52 PM
Nov 2012

Jill Kelley informed friend who worked at FBI about getting the emails (from Paula Broadwell)
FBI agent thinks the investigation is taking too long, goes to WA state Rep. Reichert (who previously had worked for FBI on Green River Killer case)
Rep. Reichert told agent to talk to Eric Cantor
Agent talks to Cantor 2 weeks before election
Cantor talks to FBI Director Mueller, apparently speaks to no one else, like Dianne Feinstein
Agent apparently reprimanded in some way for leaking details of case (not a whistleblower in any form of the word no matter how Republics are trying to spin it)
Patraeus is informed his affair is going to be made public, he resigns
Speculation from media, interwebs ensues.

to Obama that was eagerly anticipated before the election, IMO. The FBI had mostly determined it was not a security issue, just a sordid personal mess. Why leak it to the GOP, then--unless someone or some people were in a hurry to see something happen before Nov. 6?
