Jimmy Carter's grandson strikes again

?'You probably remember back in September when Jimmy Carter's grandson, James Carter IV, was instrumental in digging up and helping publicize Romney's 47% video. We all enjoyed the poetic justice of the moment that very likely contributed to Romney's defeat.

Now James Carter IV is at it again, this time digging up actual audio of Republican strategist Lee Atwater explaining the "Southern Strategy":'

I remember Jimmy Carter winning when I was young.

I grew up Christian. The son of deacons.

Carter was and is a deacon.

The job of a deacon, when you sum it up is to help people. When they are sick and shut in, it is the deacons who act --- no not just act, but are compelled to act.

I grew up with that tradition and I saw in Carter a true deacon.

I am not Christian anymore. I am an Atheist now.

But I still have the same feeling about Carter.

In every thing he did as President. And everything he did after (Habitat for Humanity), I can always respect him.

And his son... :::smile::: a chip off the old block. He warms my heart just like his dad still does.

Godspeed, Carter IV.

Jimmy Carter could have broken up the building Southern Strategy when he got elected in 1976.
He got the racist South on his side despite him not being a racist.
The Republicans hadn't fully locked down that Solid South quite yet.
They HAD to make him look weak so they could lock down that strategy.
4 years later Ronald Reagan gets in there & locks the Southern Strategy down for good.
And we all had to suffer for the past 30 years because of it.

James Carter IV will avenge the defeat of James Carter II & I'm glad that he's doing it.
Chickens are coming home to roost for the Republican Party.
It's time to slay this dragon once & for all.

With Lee Atwater we saw a monster. A powerful, talented, greedy and ego driven bastard who broke all the standards of decency while tearing the hearts out of many innocent people.

Then came his terminal cancer...

Can't take it w/ya, eh Lee?

and he finally saw himself standing before God in all his shame. He even wrote about this during his final days.

I can't quite bring myself to feel sorry for Lee but his sense of personal shame must have been a catastrophe.

'I was wrong to follow the meanness of Conservatism. I should have been trying to help people instead of take advantage of them. I don’t hate anyone anymore. For the first time in my life I don’t hate somebody. I have nothing but good feelings toward people. I’ve found Jesus Christ – It’s that simple. He’s made a difference.'"

I always try not to hate...and it's difficult. Especially during the 2nd term of W. But I never act on hate. I may fantasize like in a movie...but never act on it.

Look at all of the Southerners who are demanding Secession! All I thought of doing was moving to Vermont...or better yet France. I still think of moving to France....great food and an appreciation of the quality of life.

But I actually think things are looking UP here in the US...well, most of it. Now I want to move to Colorado and get mellow.

I could see Rove atoning in the same way if faced with death with time for reflection the same way Atwater did. But if he dies of old age or suddenly (like a massive heart attack), then you can forget about it. It's not happening. All those rightwing cats like Rove, Limbaugh, Norquist, etc, are making huge income off being cruel bastards. Surely you know that Limbaugh doesn't actually believe that stuff he spews over the mike. He's just willing to say anything for millions per year knowing he couldn't make an honest income doing anything else.

And the Southerners demanding secession ... haven't they read the Constitution, or even reviewed history lessons? I think this must be a PR maneuver more so than anything else because I cannot believe that everyone coming out for secession thinks it is actually doable.

Wed Nov 14, 2012, 07:36 PM

There is no question Rove's presence in politics has tremendously hurt this Country. But he is simply a political strategist and his reach has been limited. Cheney was the Vice President for eight years, and for the first few years, many asserted he was actually running the show. In that position, his reach extended much farther than Rove's. There is no question, however, that the depth of his political depravity was just as deep as Rove's; it is just that he had more power and his actions adversely impacted so many others beyond our borders. I am thinking of all the innocent Iraqi people who died as a result of the preemptive war on their country by our Country and I remain ashamed for this Country and what it did to that country.

and to keep reminding people in 16 when Jeb attempts to come back.

Jimmy Carter, day in, day out, lives the life that the awipe repubs yap about endlessly but never follow.

66. "Southern Strategy"? Meh.
Wed Nov 14, 2012, 12:16 PM
Nov 2012

It's more a southern mindset which has been in effect since the loss of their slaves in the Civil War, made into rethuglican doctrine by men like Atwater and his acolyte Rove. Granted it's worked since the mid-sixties to keep the South solidly rethuglican for now on four decades, but Johnson's Great Society had a lot to do with locking this in place because of the advances that all black, poor and elderly attained through that legilsation. This locked down the South for the rethugs all those many years ago, and they haven't had to think about really running any real races down there in all that time, which left them plenty of time to bring in people like Frank Luntz and Peggy Noonan to craft a clever and cynical rebranding of their "message" to the other areas of the country to hoodwink them into thinking that the rethugs were now mellower and more progressive, and had their economic interests at heart. Well that 47% video - along with eight years of the Bush economy and the last four years of the rethuglican stall in Washington have created a strong resistence to their so-called message. Now demographics are their worst enemy and will be from now on out. With every passing day, new voters are emerging and they won't be suffering the rethuglican fools lightly. Rethugs have made it abundantly clear what they think of the average American citizen and we're clearly not in their 1% Class of those that matter to them. And if they think that doublespeak to the Latinos, Asians, elderly, female, LBGT, those in poverty, is going to make us putty in their hands, they'd better think again. We've got their numbers. And we're not going to be sweetalked into falling for them again.
