(11,304 posts)There are some very fine women who act at Funerals when a soldier dies. I know when my dad died and he was buried at Arlington National Cemetary there was the minister, the aid that helped the widow and the hostess who was a representative who was at the burial site. She was a very kind lady and she made sure if we needed anything she was there.

(11,304 posts)none of our business but when a highly respected general does something like this it hurts the morale of the troops who are in the field fighting. This is nothing more than a distraction of real important issues. I do think he did right by resigning. Generals have to be an example. War isn't an excuse. Sorry his wife was at home doing what she was suppose to do. I know she will forgive him and try to move on. You don't throw over 30 yrs of marriage so easy. I'm so over this situation. All these people involved are republicans and somehow its all Obama's fault.

(4,291 posts)Olongapo indeed. I know what you're talking about BTW, my late Dad was the CO of NAS Atsugi back in the 60's. I've actually been there, 1979, and the kids chased me and my F-14 pilot husband down the streets screaming "bionic woman."

(12,769 posts)What does being an unpaid social liaison entail?
By Eli MacKinnon, Life's Little Mysteries Staff Writer | LiveScience.com
<snip>
Life's Little Mysteries spoke to a military spokesman, who asked not to be identified, to try to officially clear up the unofficial matter. While his responses didn't definitively solve anything, his analysis was still instructive. Some of the conversation is reproduced below.
Spokesperson: I don't think it entails anything. Someone does some nice things for people, and then they give them a piece of paper and a gift and say thank you.
Are there other unpaid social liaisons in Central Command or is Kelley the only one?
Spokesperson: I don't know. I don't think it's a position. It's like saying CentCom [Central Command] has a green thermos. A green thermos isn't some official position; there's no official green thermos. Someone might have considered themselves a green thermos.
How and why would the decision to bestow an "honorary ambassador" status on Kelley have been made?
Spokesperson: They probably said, "Hey, this nice lady hosted several parties we were at. We had a lot of fun and she seems really nice and does things to help us out, so let's give her a certificate and make her an honorary ambassador to the coalition." Someone typed it up, someone hit print and that was it.
