But not since then, and I only heard from him on the board. We have had no contact otherwise.

(54,527 posts)We try to come as close to the original as possible, as it magnifies the comic effect when we deviate.

(54,527 posts)One is my own group, the Freedom Toast, out of Atlanta. Most of the group is based there, although I am usually in Europe.
The other is the Parody Project, based in the Pacific Northwest, headed by media master (and brilliant parodist in his own right) Don Caron.
He does many parodies on his own. I used to do the occasional parody, but just don't have the time to devote to this full time. He is retired from his media work, where I still work full time. We got together over four years ago, when I contacted him with my proposed lyrics to "Mar-A-Lagoville." He did the video and vocals, and it must be close to half a million views by now. In the meantime, some of the time, TFT (The Freedom Toast) does the music and lyrics in Atlanta, and a friend of ours in Georgia who calls herself "Cinebot Video" does the animation. She is a total professional.
One day, Atticus posted two verses of a parody on "Whiter Shade of Pale." I thought they were so good, I asked him if he was OK with The Freedom Toast recording them. He said go ahead. I wrote another verse (the middle verse in the video), and gave it to TFT to take to the studio. When I was happy with the production, I sent it on to Cinebot. After some tweaks I wanted, I was happy with it, and sent it on to the Parody Project, who put it out on his channel. I posted it here, and Atticus gave his blessing, but I have not heard from him since. I think he is a retired physician, and it is unusual for him to be absent this long. I have no way of contacting him outside of DU, so I can only hope he's OK.
TFT and Parody Project have worked on a couple dozen videos by now. The credits are always varied--sometimes the vocal and music are done out west, sometimes the video as well. Sometimes all the work is done in Atlanta by us, and the video by Cinebot. It always varies. On rare occasions, guest lyricists lend their talents See "The Real G O P," "Addicted To Trump" and "Dumb Down" by John Emory for some top lyrics. Our talented vocalist/impersonator Deb Bowman did the Petula Clark impersonation on "Dumb Down," as well as the Ethel Merman on "No Business like NO Business" and the Dolly Parton on "Marge Greene," a parody on "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. She is from Alabama. Chanda Leigh of Atlanta did the Bangles impersonation on "Walk Like A Drunk Russian." She is also appearing on a hilarious new one that is still in production. We also had our Sinatra sound-alike do "Strangers On The Right," as well as our Harry Belfonte imitator (he is not Jamaican, but his wife is) do "Vote No," which is a parody of the Banana Boat Song. We came close to Johnny Cash on "Ghost Donald In The Sky," and even have done two by Gilbert and Sullivan: Republicans with No Plan (Gentleman of Japan) and My Pillow (Tit Willow) from the Mikado. I'll let you guess what they were about!
All this stuff is on Youtube. Parody Project has them on their channel, and look for anything they have done together with The Freedom Toast, and that will mean I/TFT had a hand in it.
Our latest two parodies are these:
"Pence Man," a parody of George Harrison's "Tax Man"
and
"Take It Easy," an Eagles/Jackson Browne parody starring a collage of Biden/McCarthy/Pelosi/Greg Abbott/Trump/Pence/Jaime Raskin

(36,509 posts)Lyrics by Atticus of the Democratic Underground
They skipped the Constitution
And befouled the marble floor
TV coverage made me sick
The crowd called out for more
The mob was pressing harder
The police were held at bay
When the Capitol cried out "Help us!"
The White House turned away
chorus:
And so it was that later
Stephen Miller told his tale
And Trump's face, at first just pasty,
Turned a whiter shade of fail.
He said, Tis not the season,
To be coming after me
But the evidence was obvious
We couldnt let it be.
One of sixteen prosecutions
Whose verdicts will leave him toast
And though cases are still open
They might as well be closed
Chorus:
And so were hoping that later
When hes rotting in his jail
His face without access to makeup
Turns a whiter shade of fail
They had abandoned reason
And truth and decency
So they wandered through the hallowed halls
Of our democracy
Not Patriots but traitors
They'd hoped to hang Mike Pence
Puppets all, they could not see
The Big Lie made no sense
Chorus:
And so it was that later
As he grifted to raise bail
Trump's face at first just pasty
Turned a whiter shade of fail

(6,617 posts)Dump probably takes it as a compliment. Of course I can't stand to even watch MSNBC anymore since they keep showing us ugly traitorous face and playing his stupid statements.

I hope we hear from Atticus soon.
Im sharing Whiter Shade of Fail wherever I can.

(54,527 posts)I have little patience for those who live in safe areas who give out free advice telling people to move to wherever, as if it were as easy as shifting gears on a car.
Ive heard Tex-ass here more often than Alaskan mosquitoes bite. Yeah, our governor sucks, and so does our state legislature, as well as our two senators. Still, except for California, more Texans voted for Joe Biden than people from any other state.

(54,527 posts)I usually dont do projects like this with other peoples lyrics, but I really liked these, so when Atticus posted them, I asked if it was OK with him if I made the video, and he said he was cool with it, I wrote the middle verse, sent the lyrics on to Atlanta, and then the audio track on to Cinebot. What you saw here was the result of some serious collaboration.
