Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia signed legislation Friday that will create an oversight commission with the power to remove local prosecutors and district attorneys from their jobs. The measure has been heavily criticized by Democrats, including an Atlanta-area DA, who is seriously weighing charges in connection with former President Donald Trumps actions in Georgia during the 2020 election.
Prior to the signing, Kemps office said that the measure, known as SB 92, would create an oversight mechanism for district attorneys and solicitors-general across Georgia to ensure accountability in upholding constitution and statutory duties.
As hardworking law enforcement officers routinely put their lives on the line to investigate, confront, and arrest criminal offenders, I wont stand idly by as theyre met with resistance from rogue or incompetent prosecutors who refuse to uphold the law, Kemp said in a press release after signing the bill. He added that the creation of the commission will help hold prosecutors driven by out-of-touch politics than commitment to their responsibilities accountable and make our communities safer.

Some Georgia Republicans get it: Fani Willis just did them a huge favor
Whopping Trump indictment in Georgia could begin to undo the massive damage Trump has done to his own party
Snip
It's not just Democrats who seem to feel giddy about this. Some Georgia Republicans appear to be quietly celebrating the potential downfall of a man who seemed determined to rope all of them into a dangerous criminal conspiracy. After all, these are people, as the Washington Post reported Monday, who heard Donald Trump Jr. present them with a choice: Risk prison for his dad or face the destruction of their careers.
While major players in national Republican politics, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have decided to die on the hill of defending Trump, many state Republican leaders in Georgia (and lots of other places) seem more interested to see Trump behind bars and out of their lives for good. Willis' indictments appear to rest heavily on the testimony of state and local Republicans, some of whom were seen going in and out of the Atlanta courtroom Monday. In front of a jury and the nation, this makes it a lot tougher for Trump and his supporters to sell the "partisan witch hunt" narrative. One of those GOP witnesses, former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, seems especially clear-headed about the fact that Trump is a parasite on his party's hide, and will suck them dry if he's not forcibly removed. .........................(more)

(21,628 posts)a Fani Willis removal doesn't go to a popular vote from the people.
ecstatic
(32,843 posts)He does the grievance politics thing too. Lashed out and threatened businesses like Delta that supported voting rights. And now look at this nutty ass law he just signed. He's fascist trash with a chip on his shoulder (maybe due to his height). I hope people are paying attention. His accent is also insufferable.
