https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/aug/30/mark-thompson-cnn-chief-executiveMark Thompson, the former New York Times and BBC chief, has been named the new CEO of cable news giant CNN, tasked with reviving a network beset by sagging ratings and falling profits.
The announcement followed much speculation in recent days, and comes after Chris Lichts exit in June. Licht spent a rocky year at the helm that included a divisive town hall with Donald Trump and the shutdown of CNN+ streaming service just weeks after its launch.

He's pretty good at his job and really is not a zealot by any means.

(5,184 posts)Then I'll go back to watching CNN between 5am and 9 am (CDT).
Currently, I only watch one hour a week, IF I'm even at home on Sunday morning. Fareed Zakaria is that only hour. I used to watch the next hour until Stelter was purged by the reich winger Licht.

(29,226 posts)The right is now the far, far right.
The left... really hasn't changed... almost no actual communists on the left, damn few socialists.
so the middle has moved... waay to the right.
But nobody wants Faux-lite. So it doesn't matter who is the new CEO... it's the ownership that needs to change.

(20,006 posts)Hmmm...I wonder why in 2015-16 Thompson and his crew didn't report much about TFG's corrupt dealings with Russians, etc., over the previous 25+ years? There was plenty of material and probably nobody had better access to sources than the hometown paper. Voters had a "need to know" before it was too late.
