Reno letter to the editor: 'Tea party gave nation many blessings'

Now the holiday season approaches, we should pause and give thanks to the tea party for the blessings they have bestowed on our nation.

Thank you for forcing Mitt Romney so far to the wingnut right during the Republican primary that his subsequent back flips and contortions made him appear lacking any core values. Thank you for giving us a collection of candidates who were manifestly unqualified to be in the Senate or House, and converting winnable races into ignominious defeats.

Thank you for imposing on the GOP unyielding opposition to immigration reform, thereby delivering to Democrats a large and growing voter bloc, for denigrating gay and lesbian rights, for ridiculing the value of science and public education and for turning the Republican Party into a club of grumpy old white guys and their lacquered consorts, assuring that most of the college-educated electorate and most under 30 vote blue, and for opposing a woman’s right to control her body and demeaning the concept of equal pay for equal work, giving President Obama his victory margin.

Tea party, you are truly the gift that keeps on giving to establish a long-term Democratic majority in our country. Thank you.

Mark Richter, Reno

I love this line: "...for turning the Republican Party into a club of grumpy old white guys and their lacquered consorts..."

Mark hits another one outta the park. I met him briefly at a state Dem convention here in L.A. We'd been emailing back and forth. He's very bright, very articulate, and extremely dedicated!

Blue is in style, let the strength of your own core values shine, not silly bitter retorts or name calling.

Kick the fuckers in the teeth when they're down.

Twice.

Just so they know the first kick wasn't accidental.

Playing Nice only emboldens those that hate you as they confuse courtesy for weakness, and hasn't yet worked once in politics.
