Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), fresh off a hard-fought reelection battle, isn't ruling out running for the Senate in 2014.
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has not said whether he's running for reelection. King, a Tea Party favorite and strong fundraiser, could make a strong run for the seat, whether it's against Harkin or another Democrat.
"I know thats something that is on the horizon ... but I think there are some decisions that need to be made before I could comment on that," King told local reporters.
The congressman said he is keeping his options open but doesn't "want to raise expectations unnecessarily."

As for King, he wouldn't have a chance in a State election.

(17,865 posts)I would put my money on Braley. Alot depends on how the next two years goes. King's social policies don't play well in Eastern Iowa, but Iowa voters will vote their pocketbooks first and foremost. I think most realized that talking about cutting 20% on the tax rate when running a $1T deficit and pegging defense spending at 4% of GDP were crazy fiscally irresponsible ideas.
I don't know if Braley will run for Senate in two years. I was hoping he would challenge Grassley in four. I am not sure who else could run in the state though. Culver basically gave up in the Governor's race. Gov. Vilsack has the most name recognition, but no fire for him. Boswell could not even beat Latham.
