No Representative has been expelled without a criminal conviction since the Civil War. Allowing this would create a new weapon in the political wars.
Plus itll help us win the seat in 2024.

(4,570 posts)(at least that's one of the things that he said... right ??)
His lies to his constituents are so goddamn obvious,
YEAH--- he is entitled to a jury trial before he gets put into jail---
but the House of Representatives is not held to such a standard as
"beyond a reasonable doubt"---
they are not a court....
God knows I suspected that they would never try to kick him out,
because they are all a pack of criminals...

Still, there are some well respected Dem leaders on the list - Lofgren, Raskin, Katie Porter. They must have had their reasons.

(2,134 posts).is exactly right. We dont want expulsion from Congress to become the Repubs favorite new tool to waste time and fuck things up. Second favorite, actually, after impeaching President Biden. I stand corrected. I want the little dickweed gone as much as anyone, but replaced by a Democrat asap.

(298,425 posts)Hawaii but different Islands... Ed Case.
The new Rep for our Island Jill Tokuda voted Yes .. and she was Endorse by the progressive Caucus but I haven't seen her making a waves.
I read that there were those who felt a Congress person shouldn't be expelled until they were convicted.
I saw some pics of Santos, while I was researching to find out who voted Yes(couldn't find anything), and he looked like a little satisfied smug pig.. Sorry Pigs.!
Can't wait till that gets wiped off his face.

(8,372 posts)There is a process issue here. Santos is a fucking dirtblk but he has yet to be convicted in a court of law and the HouseEthics Committee has not finished its investigation. A lot of these Democrats are process democrats. There should be a process in place and followed.

(101,470 posts)He got his due process. He's a known crook, and so some Democrats voted to keep a known Republican crook in the House. Most Democrats got the decision right, though.

(11,852 posts)...Dems are going to let the NY candidates hang Santos around the neck of NY Republicans and use it to flip the house. It's worth mentioning none of those voting against expelling Santos are in NY. It's actually quite smart and gives me a good bit of hope for next November.

(15,457 posts)I am so fucking sick of this fucking game.
Why didn't Dems support McCarthy?
Why didn't Dems stop the Supreme Court from wrecking our individual freedoms?
Why didn't Dems do this?
Why didn't Dems do that?
"Dems coulda', Dems shoulda', Dems oughta'"....
And to be clear, I am not directing my rant at the OP.
American voters selected the Retrumplican morons to the majority.
Asking why Dems don't "save us", is like giving Superman a kryptonite neckless and then complaining that he didn't stop the train.
There is only ONE way to stop this march toward fascism, and that's for the American voters to rise up and scream "we've had enough of Retrumplican fascism."

(12 posts)Simple He has only a year to go before re-election right?
It is a 99% sure thing he will be voted out,
He won't get primaried out because Trump supports him, so he will be in the general.
So should be an easy seat to flip.

(32,253 posts)There are three Rs running against him right now and there might be more. He will lose the primary and so a new R will be in the general election. From what I can tell from looking at the candidates any will be far more politically attractive than Santos.
