Paul Kranz, Paula Broadwells father ... A lot more is going to come out, he says ...
Petraeus agreed to cooperate on the book, and Broadwell subsequently made several more trips to Afghanistan. During these trips, she left behind an infant son and a 3-year-old as well as her husband, Scott. ...
... It was Petraeus who floated the idea that he become CIA director. Obama was intrigued, but the White House decided he could only have the job under certain conditions. To lead the civilian agency, he would have to take off his uniform. And perhaps more important, he would have to dramatically lower his profile. There would be no showboating in the media, or fraternizing with White House rivals in Congress. Obama aides called the agreement the grand bargain. Petraeus consented.

The reason I remember the picture so clearly is that the look that Petraeus and Obama exchanged was one of recognition and deep friendship. I personally believe that Obama and Petraeus trusted each other instinctively and were good friends almost instantly when they met.
Petraeus sounds like a bit of an obsessive-compulsive type. Obama is also a person who is very duty-bound and reliable although he displays those traits in more laid-back manner.
Both Obama and Petraeus value physical fitness (although Obama is not a fanatic about it). Both work very, very hard. Both are true patriots.
I don't know why, but I find the fact that Petraeus was recovering from treatment for prostate cancer to be significant. Maybe his affair was a kind of last grab for mortal pleasure. I don't know. Maybe he craved the recognition and affirmation of Broadwell once he was no longer surrounded by admiring and subservient troops.
Anyway, as with Spitzer, I don't think we have heard the last from Petraeus. The article paints Broadwell as an ambitious but well-meaning person. It will take a lot more than the information in that article to convince me of that. And then there is Jill Kelly. We shall see. I do not understand why this group of wealthy, society women were allowed to become so familiar with the leadership of our military. Seems totally inappropriate to me.
