I've been debating the issue on another board with some Democratic and GOP women, and I swear these right wing women are crazy. (I won't even go into the "Obama looks like Malcolm X" pictures one of them posted earlier today, LOL.) But anyway, as far as I can understand they think that any admission of this being a terrorist attack would have been the death knell (sp?) of Obama's campaign and that he therefore chose to blame it on the video in order to mislead the public and not lose the election. But that would assume that (1) Obama's campaign rested heavily on the notion that he had totally decimated Al Quaeda (which it obviously did not), so that any AQ attack would now call his foreign policy into question, and (2) that Obama was so afraid of losing the election that he was willing to lie to the American public. Now only Republicans ever believed that there was a significant chance of Obama losing, but we know that the Obama campaign had good numbers throughout and had a great ground game, so there is zero chance that Obama could possibly have been so nervous about the election that he would have been willing to lie to the public. Anyway, there would have been easier ways to play something like Benghazi for electoral purposes if he really wanted to (which he clearly did not): all he needed to do was to strike a manly pose, channel people's emotions into anger at those who dare to attack the US, and look presidential.

To which one woman responded that this thing was politically dangerous for Obama because he already had to run from his foreign policy record. Which just proves to me that this whole conspiracy theory is born of the right wing bubble. For someone to believe this BS, they have to assume that Obama had to run from his foreign policy record, that he built his campaign on some major and total destruction of AQ, and that he was truly afraid of losing the election. In short, only someone who lives in the right wing bubble could possibly believe this BS.

Now that there are probably unanswered questions about Benghazi, I'm sure. But this effort to smear Obama is right wing bubble babble. So we're stuck debating these idiots instead of trying to find real answers to real issues.

I think you're spot on with why this "scandal" seems so bizarre to anyone not taking in Fox News/hate radio 24/7. It's a fiction, built on several other fictions.

Benghazi was not an "Embassy" by any stretch of anyone's imagination. It isn't even a true "consulate" if I understand correctly. I think a more proper term would be "mission" or "outpost".

I think it makes the point quicker because the pics of chimpy are distracting and for better or for worse, the people who need to get this message are incredibly easily taken off point. And really, in this case, it isn't Bush we want to emphasize, it's the current republicans - both in Washington and on facebook.
