(19,326 posts)for Obama's 2nd term.
Obama has done MANY things I strongly object to (NDAA being chief
among them), but there's STILL a reasonably good chance that I will
STILL vote for him in Nov. ... I'd bet money on it.
But every comment like yours that I hear or see, between now and Nov.
will lessen the odds of my winning the bet.
If you want to wax elequent to exert meaningful pressure for a better
world, please address it to Obama, not to Lib/Dems who have been
wondering what the fuck happened to Mr. Hope and Change on the way
to the Inauguration.
I've not seen a more classic case of generating "unintended consequences"
than your post.

(46,585 posts)If Pres O had vetoed it, Congress had enough votes to overturn the veto making the president look weak ... and it still would become law. Signing it effected the exact same outcome as not signing it.
If you want to blame someone, I would suggest you direct your attention at the weasel Democrats in Congress that aided and abetted Republicans in pushing this travesty through.
You are responsible for your own vote. Nobody is going to spoon-feed it to you, so stop trying to recruit people to blame for your lack of clarity.

(19,326 posts)then there's him hiring Wall St. insiders to "fix" Wall St., Holder's DoJ obsession with
raiding legal pot dispensaries (in violation of state law), continuing the obscene War
on Drugs (read War on People of Color who get caught with a refer), .. you know the
list as well as I do..
On Edit: just to say, I am TOTALLY encouraged by Obama's recent stance on both
Tar Sands and SOPA, where he seems to be growing a spine... absolutely LOVE these
developments, and will continue to give credit where it is due.

(8,462 posts)and it was a bluff, they wouldn't have voted for the bill. Obama effectively communicated that he wanted the bill passed, so the Dems voted for it.

(1,979 posts)that has a detention section that is un-Constitutional in it? Why veto a bill and work with your party to make it better? Why fight and stand up for the rights of Americans? Why work to defend the rights of America? Why not just cede your role as president and the leadership of your party because you might lose while being on the right side of a moral issue? The truth is Obama wasn't that opposed to the bill.
His lack of fight against diminution of our rights and other Republican style laws are exactly the reasons many Democrats don't fully back Obama this time.

(18,115 posts)The two are not synonymous, although such a wide margin is obviously not in a President's favor. We will never know how a veto and a re-framing by the President would have changed the debate. IMO, even with an override, he would have appeared stronger. He would have come across as one with conviction.
I blame the republicans, the Democrats in Congress and the President who signed the bill.

(122 posts)So the op has to win your vote for Obama's 2nd term. I thought that was Obama's job to win your vote. The choice is simple, you can either vote for Obama, or live in rethuglican hell. Its your choice.
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)I encouraged OP to address their ire to Obama, not me.
I'm not the fucking President.
How exactly is that asking OP to "win my vote" again?

(82,383 posts)Rather silly to use your vote to get attention in this way. There are millions of us with votes. They are meaningless until tallied up.

(19,326 posts)that name-calling (ie YOU IDIOT!!) is not only against DU TOS,
it's also counter-productive.
Do you not agree?

Just because we disagree doesn't mean we are naive or idiots. Stop acting like Republicans with the name calling and unsupported comments.

(3,855 posts)Don't worry about WHY they might oppose Obama or who they are or if they have a point.
Lets group people worried over stuff like the NDAA and treatment of whistleblowers and those who don't think Obama is doing enough along with birthers and racists. Yes clearly they are all the same.
And calling them idiots will surely make them see the error of their ways better then any dialogue will.
We save time and energy.

Dissent, it should be remembered, does not equal disloyalty or support of a Repuke.
