(25,415 posts)My husband is allergic to pine trees, believe it or not. Breaks out in hives and can't breathe. We have had that fake tree for 14 years. I will keep it going until it literally falls apart.

In fact, if you mulch one up (or live a city that picks them up and mulches them), you're actually performing a net zero deed. The mulch is used to grow more plants and prevent erosion.

(15,262 posts)They use a lot of chemicals and energy too, and are transported across the continent with high-cost fuels. It is an economic waste, investing in a disposable product, but it is part of the local economy and makes people rich compared to growing food.
