GOProud, Gay Republican Group, Offers Twinkies For Donations As Potential Snack Shortage Looms
GOProud, a conservative gay group, moved quickly to capitalize on the news that there may soon be a Twinkies shortage. Mere hours after news of Hostess Inc.'s impending liquidation, GOProud sent out a press release offering boxes of Twinkies to donors who contribute at least $50 to the organization between now and the end of November.
You know that our staff at GOProud works every day to promote free-market principles and freedom for everyone," the release, which was sent out on Friday, reads, according to BuzzFeed. "You may not know about our special emergency response squad. This morning when the news broke, they sprung into action and secured a supply of the coveted snack cakes. We now have a stash of Twinkies in the GOProud vault. You have a chance to take advantage of our quick response to this crisis."
While shoppers flooded Twitter with stockpiling plans and hoarding tips, this may be the first political group to trade Twinkies for contributions. GOProud confirmed their own stockpile to the Washington Examiner on Saturday.
"We lucked out and found some of the last Twinkies ever made for sale on Amazon," group founder Jimmy LaSalvia said. Though the pitch was meant to be light-hearted, it has resulted in "some" contributions, according to LaSalvia.
However, GOProud does note that the closing of Hostess plants across the country is far from funny and will result in thousands of employees losing their jobs.

(60,536 posts)and Log Cabinites, while a little bit better, they are none-the-less loons. Cabinites remind me of "the good gays" in the book about Harvey Milk, The Mayor of Castro Street. Besides, I've been involved in Democratic Party politics for over 50 years, ain't changing now. Not even therapy will work.
