Really - the campaign McCain and Graham are on to discredit her - and now a group of Repugs sending a letter to PBO.
The noise that they are making to discredit her doesn't make sense - so - what is there real reason for not wanting her as Sec?

(33,615 posts)Obama in a scandal as quickly as possible to negate any momentum he might have from the election.
Right now Benghazi is all they have and using it to defeat Obama's SOS pick would be high profile and a big victory.
It's all just political bullshit.

(45,274 posts)having failed to stop Obama's electoral victory, this gives them a crack at another black person. The wingnuts would like that. Kind of like a consolation prize for the racists.

(16,916 posts)they are in a panic because they lost when they thought they would win, they need a distraction to make America forget how badly they suck, so they are striking out at a convenient target.
Rice is female, not white, well educated, and a Dem. I am not surprised at all that they want to discredit her and, by proxy, the Pres.

(32,088 posts)As someone pointed out in another thread last night, this is not only about their trying to discredit the President. They also are attempting to dictate his cabinet and other political appointee choices. They are not at all afraid of Rice.

(1,041 posts)Some have suggested that it might be as simple as wanting John Kerry to vacate his Senate seat and expecting Brown to win it.
It's hard to tell though when you are looking at some pretty nutty people at times.
I can't figure out how but I tend to think they want to find something to try to impeach the President with. Maybe they are thinking if they can get an investigation going that allows them into the Executive's britches, they can search and search and search until they find something. Even if they have to take that something out of context (remember the election).
They seem nuts to me but the people who keep electing them seem nuts to me also.

(30,676 posts)The work of destroying the Obama administration in every sense of the word won't ever stop. Even after we have a new president. The Modern Repubs have no positive programs, so the only thing they do is rat fuck the other side as much as possible.

It's probably being done for at least a triple payoff:
- Whip up a case for impeachment of PBO
- Another gopper into the Senate
- Dog whistles to the racists in the base

(39,961 posts)And they want John Kerry for the job so Scott Brown has another shot at a Senate seat.
But really, "She's not a Republican" is pretty much reason enough.
I think the main reason is because they (the Republicons') want John Kerry to be SOS, so it will open up his seat in the Senate, thus giving the right wing a chance to eventually capture his seat, if not with a full-fledged winger, then by a right leaning Democrat. It's definitely not because she isn't qualified. Or because she is a black woman. It may also have something to do with the fact that they are continuing on with the agenda they have held thusfar... to refuse anything that POB proposes to make him look like a failed president.

(118,778 posts)and Hillary have done a fantastic job. It is one of the reasons the GOP lost the election. McCain and the GOP want to sully Democrats foreign policy bonafides and the only way to do that is to get a substandard SOS. Rice would make an excellent one. So they attack her.

(37,364 posts)First, it is about revenge for the President winning another term. Second, it is about pushing anyone out for SoS except Kerry, the other candidate. Kerry becoming SoS means that it will be easier to keep gridlock.

(23,720 posts)In her sure-footed ascent of the foreign-policy ladder, Rice has rarely shrunk from a fight. But now that she appears poised to claim the top rung White House aides say she is President Obamas favored candidate for secretary of state this sharp-tongued, self-confident diplomat finds herself in the middle of a feud in which she is largely a bystander.
Susan had a reputation, fairly or not, as someone who could run a little hot and shoot from the hip, said John Norris, a foreign-policy specialist at the Center for American Progress. If someone had told me that the biggest knock on her was going to be that she too slavishly followed the talking points on Benghazi, I would have been shocked.
Rices record
At the UN, and in posts in the Clinton White House, Rice, who turned 48 on Saturday, has earned a reputation as a blunt advocate, relentless on issues like pressuring the regime in Sudan or intervening in Libya to prevent a slaughter by Moammar Khadafy.
She was a Rhodes scholar, has degrees from Stanford and Oxford, a Rolodex of contacts, and a relationship with Obama sealed during his 2008 campaign. So her ascension to lead the State Department would be less a blow for diversity she would, after all, be the second black woman named Rice to hold the job than the natural capstone to a fast-track career.

(698 posts)The real reason for not wanting her as Sec?
Remember the story:
A scorpion wanted to cross the river but did not know how to swim and would drown if it tried. He saw a croc nearby and asked if he could get a lift on it's back. The croc refused, saying that the scorpion would sting him. The scorpion insisted it would not, reasoning that if it did, they both would die (croc from the sting and the scorpion from drowning). The croc thought about it and agreed to give the scorpion a lift across the river. Half way across the river, the scorpion stung the croc. As the croc was dying, it asked the scorpion why it stung him, now dooming them both to certain death? The scorpion replied, "It's in my nature" !!
So to answer your question why the Repugs did not want Rice as Sec:
Because by nature, the Repugs are Assholes !! Always were and always will be !!
