Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have a question about CNN giving 1.5 h s of free airtime to Haley last night.
It was pitched as a town hall. So my question is, if a network gives a candidate free air time under the guise of town hall, and does not fact check immediately after, does that then become an in kind contribution to the candidate and reportable under federal election laws?

(17,409 posts)Television networks host candidate forums all the time, do you have any precedent where these have ever been considered in kind contributions?

(8,280 posts)televised town halls, the network talking heads do a compare and contrast regarding candidates claims. CNN was silent. Thereby gifting her an 1.5 of free say what she wants, airtime. Can you imagine what that costs?

(17,409 posts)Where is the legal standard that says whatever you happen to consider to be inadequate fact checking turns a candidate forum into an in kind contribution?
Also, this was the first thing that popped up in google when I searched for the town hall

CNNs treatment of the town hall did not feature the requisite talking heads doing a fact check. This completely alters the nature of so called public service, thereby making it appears as though CNN endorsed her answers.

I cant believe any candidate forum hosted by Fox News meets your arbitrary standard, why havent they been pursued under your theory?
Also, I posted a CNN fact check on the Haley event, so your claim isnt even really correct.

(2,584 posts)I thought I read here today that they were going to give President Biden a town hall in the near future. I can't find it now, of
course I could be total wrong.

Fact checking immediately after the town hall.
There was NO FACT checking regarding Haleys claims.

(2,584 posts)Well during one debate, I think it was Wallace that did fact check one of the people on the stage, only time
I ever saw a moderator do that. Edit to say I get your point.
