(32,883 posts)But no! They work for the Russian-version of the CIA (called FSB now) and they are highly-trained specialized spies. They carry out Putin's direct orders to mess up our internets, our telecommunications, and our national-news media in any devious way possible.
We need to protect ourselves and find ways to block this interference. Maybe it means shutting down Xwitter, or Falsebook, or any other platform that refuses to comply with our safety standards? I don't know, but this has to stop.

(1,832 posts)They are stirring uproar about anything controversial to get hits, since it is also a business model based on advertising revenue. This is now a big industry in countries like North Macedonia, the Philippines and Romania. And also in Russia, since not all of them are working solely for the Russia government:
- Disinformation has no need for consistency and zero commitment to objective reality; claims are frequently contradictory, arguing both sides of the coin in exaggerated and divisive ways. This Russian firehose model of propaganda is high-output, contradictory and multichannel. The stream encourages us to sleepwalk into apathy, distrustful of everything.
- The trolls deployed a wide range of political rhetoric, ranging from tweets supporting the Black Lives Matter movement to spreading conspiracy theories and hoaxes.
