I've said this a number of times but with all the brouhaha over the last few days thought it worth repeating. This is personal follow-up to Applegrove's post from the New Republic:
Joe Biden was never my guy until 2020. My choice was simple then: I believed Biden was The One to beat Donald Trump, the man who was the Worst, Most Destructive President in American History.
Those factors are still in play. But then, there's this:
Joe Biden has exceeded all my expectations.
Turns out Joe was not merely a place holder but the most consequential president of my living memory. President Biden's list of accomplishments in 3 years is massive, important and are far more expansive than most presidents rack up in two full terms.
To ignore these accomplishments or to run with a Republican/media-driven narrative is political malpractice. We have an enormous responsibility to fulfill this coming November. We're tasked with making sure Donald Trump and his odious enablers, both domestic and foreign, never get their hands on the levers of power again.
It's positively existential in nature for the country, for the world, for the future.
It's on us now. The courts are not going to save us. The electorate will have the final say.
I'm reminded of something President Obama once said:
We are the ones we've been waiting for.
Believe it!
Tune out the noise machine and let's get this done.

(10,839 posts)It's a given that Republicans, Fox News and all the right-wing influencers (including a good portion of the media) are going to run with every negative word about President Biden.
Wringing our hands doesn't help, nor does amplifying their message.
We need to take a page out of Joe Biden's handbook: You stand up, defend yourself vociferously, righteously, and then you move on. The White House Press Corp exposed themselves as a pack of hyenas last night, members of the on-going noise machine. They've likely always been this way but listening on my car radio their screeching was unmistakable: mass hysteria.
Let's tune them out, put our shoulders together and get the job done.

(25,485 posts)It's so easy to buy into the RW/media narrative. We're kind of doing that (by "we", I mean DU and other liberals) with the Hur report. We're focusing on the pointless, gratuitous nonsense, rather than the big picture. The big picture is there's no there there. The case is over.
Nothing in the report is on the same level as the over-exaggerated claims the RW has been making about Biden for years. It's just more of the same. We need to understand that anyone who didn't buy into the myth before isn't going to suddenly jump on the bandwagon, and the sky isn't falling. Move on and focus on what's important.

(21,803 posts)We have to roll up our sleeves and deal with this ourselves.
Mueller didn't "save" us, Congress didn't "save" us in the impeachment, the 14th Amendment will not "save" us, Jack Smith will not "save" us, the Supreme Court will not "save" us.
We have to work together and save ourselves. It is the only way.

(10,839 posts)We've placed too much trust that the courts would or even could 'solve' the Trump/Maga dilemma.
Time to wake up.
It's up to us, our voices en masse at the ballot box.

were over last night and talking with my wife as I sat in my recliner reading DU (go figure) and I had an epiphany of sorts. Let back up for a sec. We all know that old story of the young person goes in the military for 4 years comes back and realizes how smart his dad has gotten in just 4 years.
I had the reverse happen last evening. I have always known my daughters as smart people. Last night i realized just how smart so it is kind of like that old story in reverse. I am so proud of them.
We are the ones we have been waiting for and this is the time.

(3,339 posts)Amen.
We raised out daughters to use their own minds and not necessary just agree with us. "What do you think"? was our mantra, so we like to think their opinions are their own. OK mostly.

(12,484 posts)Consequential doesn't mean good...
It can be good or bad but it means having the greatest consequences.
Using that... Shrub and Trump were far more consequential.
Shrub launched an illegal war based on lies that is only rivaled in modern times by Putin's invasion of Ukraine...
And Trump has threatened the fragile thread holding Democracy together... hell the thread may already be snapped.
Plus... he's the most criminally corrupt President ever... by far. In fact I'd call him the most criminally corrupt politician at the national level in my lifetime.

(10,839 posts)You're right, of course.
If I use the word elsewhere, I'll need to be more specific bc consequences can certainly be good or bad.
Thanks for keeping me honest.

(21,809 posts). . .join the Democratic Party at the local level and become a district leader, precinct committeeperson, precinct captain, whatever your state calls the foot soldiers of the party.
In other words, you can be far more effective if you put down the picket sign and pick up a clipboard
If you're not happy with your current local Democratic Party, if you really want to change it, you gotta actually be in the Democratic Party
And you can't crap out at the slightest sign of backlash. In for a dime, in for a dollar.
No 2 ways about it: Sometimes, the only way out is through.

(11,615 posts)President Biden is there for us and working as hard as he can. I cannot imagine how he does it. He is older than me and I get tired.
We have to have his back.
We can expect hacking, propaganda unlike anything we have seen before, stunts of all kinds, use of AI to lie and doctor images, intense behind-the-scenes threats and intimidation of mafia level (in fact, probably actual mobsters), fear mongering, cheating, bribery, and all other kind of machinations.
Buckle up, helmets on, and lets all ride with Biden to get him safely across the finish line.

And I feel that our congresscritters have really stepped up, too. Speaking truth to nonsense-power, taking advantage of every opportunity and sticking together like a great team. Whitehouse has been especially great on the justices conflicts of interest.

(10,839 posts)They're fighting the good fight. We have their backs.
However, I have little faith in the press. They're too enamored with their own positions and relevance. Which has never made any sense bc their necks will be the first on the chopping block if Trump and his enablers win.

(21,596 posts)I kept singing this to myself this morning on my walk as I thought about all the slings and power trying to create cleptocracy in this country. I remember the sitting in protests singing this song and we did prevail on those issues.
Here is the original version although I think the original might have been at the March on Washington by the Freedom singers.
