First thing----I just came back from a business trip that took me through rural North Carolina and South Carolina. I try to stay off of Interstate Highways if I have the time....As I traveled from Western North Carolina to the coast of South Carolina I am happy to report that I only saw one sign for Trump; and only a few bumper stickers. Nobody at the conference I attended wore any red hats. Also didn't see any at any restaurant or store that I went into. Nikki Haley was all over TV in South Carolina, but I didn't see one Trump TV ad. The local news reported that he was holding a rally, and I saw one of those electronic billboards flashed the info about the rally, but that was it. Maybe the fever has broken?Second thing: I am sitting at my desk making calls, sending emails & texts trying to get a quorum for our Democratic Precinct meeting this Saturday. We're having a free breakfast and it's a great time to get together with folks who agree with you politically--which is wonderful when you live in a red county! So far I have 3 people that are coming (including me).
At the same time I'm trying to get commitments for folks to sit at an information table during the early voting period, as well as on primary day. I always enjoy working at the polls because it gives me the chance to see my neighbors and catch up with how their kids and grand kids are doing. So far I have me and one other who will "look at their calendar" and get back to me.
You can help Democrats and Joe Biden by showing up for your local Democratic Party! If you don't have money to give---share your time. The precinct meetings and county conventions are just once per year. This is how we organize the Democratic Party---from the precinct to the county to the state. This is how we work to get good candidates on the ballot. Here in my red county we have Democrats running for every open seat because our Democratic County Organization works at it! The next county over is not organized and they hardly have any Democrats running for office.
Working at the polls I will have a good book....my laptop so I can keep working on my taxes....and my cell phone so I don't miss an alert from DU or the Washington Post !
Your county and precinct need your help in the next few weeks. Find out what you can do to help!

(70,261 posts)heres the thing about a tsunami- the water rises when it hits the beach. we need to b that solid surface that causes that wave to rise.
ill b working the polls on the day. i havent done it in several yrs, cuz its exhausting. but i feel like we need every bad ass we can find in the polling places. we dont have head judges here, but by my 2nd election, i ran my polls. other pollworkers looked to me for rules and procedures. i picked up the keys, checked the closet, made the call to election central. in 08, i was the 1 to talk down the folks who wanted to vote for obama but couldnt.
but i live in a cozy blue spot. my ward went 93% for obama. i dont expect any crap. but we do have a few nutjobs, so
i highly rec the experience, even if you only do it once.

(3,331 posts)I need to connect with my fellow precinct officers and neighborhood democrats to spread the word about the primary, early voting, dates, hours of early voting and the 2 locations, in town where folks can cast their ballots before Primary Election day which is on March March 5, 2024.

(3,331 posts)I will be a poll observer, tomorrow and Friday, from 8AM -12PM., and 7 more shifts as poll observer, during early voting, which ends on March 2, 2024.
District officers like myself, have scheduled precinct organizational meetings for democrats, to bring people together, close to their homes to learn the importance of this election, especially, that their vote counts and how working with their neighbors and fellow citizens to get out the vote. We are having canvasses of neighborhoods, to knock on doors offering voter information, registering voters, or updating their registration if they have moved house, or changed their name, since they last voted. Information on Voter ID requirements, and how they can get a free voter ID from their local board of elections if they have been registered before.
Yes, I will be out there with my neighbors, spreading the word about the importance of everyone who is eligible to vote, to do just that. Thank you, yes I am volunteering.

Take the reach program.

Program Overview
In todays digital age, we are bombarded with messages and news from all directions. Amidst the noise, its our personal connections & relationships that truly stand out and make a difference. Thats where you come in.
Organizing is about leveraging our existing relationships with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to encourage action, whether thats voting, attending an event, or supporting our campaign. It is founded on the principle that people are more likely to take action if asked by someone like you they know and trust, rather than a stranger.
And there's an app for that.
Lots more ideas at the site.
