... that's right, remember these words:
-Mitt becomes the nominee after fellow right-wing scumbags Bachmann, Perry, Santorum, Gingrich, etc. fall by the wayside.
-Obama beats Mitt in November.
-Republicans everywhere cry and whine that Mitt wasn't conservative enough; America rejected him in protest since everyone is just so eager for a full-blown hard-core right-wing Nazi President (and never mind the fact that plenty of right-wing Nazis like Gingrich had failed to pass the sniff test en route to the nomination) and Mitt would have won if he'd shown more of that. "We have to run REAL conservatives next time!" will be the howl.
-As ever and always, Republicans learn absolutely nothing and continue to run around insisting fiction is fact, down is up, blue is green, and so on and so forth.

(23,671 posts)Some idiots in the upper ranks of our party will think moving more right will pull in more "moderate" conservatives to vote Democrat as a means of leveraging that move , instead of moving somewhat to the left to provide a real choice for people to vote for.

(116 posts)I felt in my gut on the day Perry got into the race that he would not be the nominee and I got a clear feeling that Romney will be the republican nominee. I predicted (which means I make a tweet before the event happens) that Republicans would not pass a bill in the House (I don't remember the bill, but it's one that Boehner said he'd bring it to a vote that night and he was sure he had the votes) I knew he didn't have the votes and indeed, they had to change the bill in order to pass it the next night. I get "gut feelings" frequently. Another one that I will also make is what you said, Obama will beat Mittens in November. (I keep closing my eyes trying to visualize a President Romney and it just doesn't feel right. I keep seeing President Obama.
I get these "gut feelings" about different people and events in my life, they are not just political.

(12,272 posts)I believe in gut feelings and Mittens as POTUS would have resounding affects forever. We thought W was bad? W couldn't wait to get out of the way. Mitt would put us back on the road to destruction. Mitt thinks he is so smart, anyone can run things into the ground.

(12,272 posts)I can only pray that you are right about the election. Remember W? He had the qualifications, family, and that might explain his *fudging 8 years, where-in he *fudged us all. Evangelicals won't go for Romney, he isn't really a Christian you know. Mitt is also a minority, but a minority with a loud mouth.
*Fudge is the new fuck, unless you are using ronpaul in place of a sometimes offensive word, but will soon be out of fashion.

Probably not.

(431 posts)the person who will be the nominee. If I was a serious Republican, right about now I'd be carrying a behind closed doors campaign to recruit and adult.
It would be ashamed too, because I think Obama has been training for Mitt since day one.

(253 posts)...think this is a classic example of how extremism destroys a political party. The "big tent" only works if everyone in it is willing to compromise a little and work for incremental change.
That doesn't mean we have to accept the unacceptable; but we have to recognize that electoral success depends on the ability to pick your battles, make a persuasive (both rationally and emotionally true) case for your policies, and compromise.
A good law is better than a bad law, even if the good law isn't the best of all possible laws. And the lesser of two evils? It's still less evil.
It's binary thinking -- and puritanical ideology -- that makes progress impossible.
