Sneering, one-sided report from AP about the Walmart strike today . . .

It repeats Walmart's talking points about "only 50 employees", and mostly quotes only Walmart officials. Note the snotty use of quotes around the word "hundreds" in the last paragraph I excerpted below. That is exactly as the AP wrote it and it smacks of sneering revulsion in regards to the striking workers. The corprats, they really stick together and scratch each other's backs, ya know? ALSO notice the amazing clergyman who was arrested for standing with the protesters. Good man there.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Wal-Mart workers and supporters marched in protest at a number of stores nationwide Thursday and Friday, blasting the wages, benefits and treatment of employees of the world's largest retailer.

The efforts seemed to do little to keep shoppers away though — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said it was its best Black Friday ever.

. . .

A union-backed group called OUR Walmart has said that it is holding an estimated 1,000 protests in 46 states. The exact number is unclear. Wal-Mart has refuted that estimate, saying the figure is grossly exaggerated and that the protests involved few of its own employees.

Wal-Mart said roughly 50 employees participated in the events Thursday and a "few dozen" employees Friday. Company spokesman Dan Fogleman said that the number of associates who missed their shifts during the two days of events is 60 percent lower than last year.

"It was proven last night — and again today — that the OUR Walmart group doesn't speak for the 1.3 million Walmart associates," the company said in a statement.

The union group estimated that "hundreds" of employees participated nationwide.

The last line reads to me as a quote from the Union. I think too many people interpret any writing that doesn't match their view of the world exactly as a clear sign of bias.

from you as you and the other party were speaking, you wouldn't interpret that as a mocking sneer? Ever watched Bill Maher or similar comedians? That's what they do when they want to mock someone and IMO that is what AP did with this interestingly-placed quote - around that one word in particular - all by itself.

....I'd interpret the "quote" as the specific word used by the reported speaker, and the rest of the sentence as developed by the author. Besides, if one intends to "snear", it usually happens at the front of the story, not the end.

I'll also observe that, since nobody else has responded in the past 90 minutes, maybe nobody else sees this the way you do either?
