I have a feeling that we are going to kick the defendant's flabby, pale ass into the dust bin of history in November. From there, the bin shall be dumped into a sewer, not to be recycled. And we will crush his republican cult beyond repair.
President Biden's great SOTU will continue to make his numbers rise in accurate polls. Katie Britt's performance will continue to be useful in sinking all republicans' number. Both provide the grass roots with exactly what we need for campaigning.
We can donate to Democratic Party candidates. We can volunteer at our local campaign headquarters. We can go door-to-door. We can communicate on the telephone and/or internet. And we can have fun delivering the message from the rooftops.

In my case, it's more accurate to say "gotten older" rather than "grown up." Either way, I still listen to the Beatles every day. Their music never gets old.

(73,623 posts)those of us who grew up (or at least got older) with the Beatles remember their being positive. All four of my now-adult children grew up listening to them, too, and still love them today.
Yesterday, my older daughter called me. She lives in Boston, and is a Democratic Party activist. She was going to a friend's birthday party, where most of those attending were self-described "leftists." She said that some of them give her shit about "being part of the system." She is gentle and kind enough to not be rude when I attempted to sing, "If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't going to make it with anyone, anyhow."
I suggested that should anyone give her shit, she ask them what they have accomplished recently. Most likely, it will be that they attended a rally or two, including against Israel. Now, I have no problem with those wanting the violence in Israel and Gaza to stop. But last Friday, the state's secretary of education read an op-ed my daughter wrote. (Her male supervisor had wanted to replace her name with his, though he had no role in writing it. I'm glad she said no, that would not happen.) The secretary of education was impressed with her thoughts on after school programs for "at risk" kids, including immigrants. He had an aide reach out to her, saying they want to meet with her.
My daughter used to work for a law firm on immigration. Then she taught at the college, then for the current state attorney general. Now she travels the eastern US, setting up programs for "at risk" youth. I suggested she mention these things, and to note she also attends rallies when time permits. But that she is busy instituting change in human beings' lives.
I should add she is a talented musician, who plays a lot of Beatles' songs.

(51,636 posts)I am a huge Beatles fan and everytime I hear this song I sing the lyrics by John...
At the beginning of the recording Lennon says,
"'I Dig a Pygmy', by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids... Phase One, in which Doris gets her oats!"
The joke was mixed in by Phil Spector for the Let It Be album and also appeared in the Let It Be film, both released in 1970. "I Dig a Pygmy" is an obvious reference to Lennon's song "Dig a Pony" that follows in the album's track order. "The deaf aids" a British term for hearing aids at the time was also the nickname given to the Beatles' Vox amplifiers.

(73,623 posts)I always liked that LP. I have the CD in my vehicle, along with "Let It Be (Naked)" and some of the 50 year Abbey Road anniversary collection, which contains some from "Let It Be."
I remember watching the movie in college. I'd see it again a few times. But I really love the "Get Back" documentary. I'll assume you've seen that. Nothing quite like it!

(3,976 posts)that means no $ for any down ballot Rethuglicans. Their entire traitorous party needs to fuck off into the dustbin of history.
It appears that a number of republicans are not happy about that. The defendant is a ball & chain on their party. And that is a good thing.

(821 posts)As you say, there's going to be little to no money for down ticket candidates or GOTV for Repubs from now on. That will, of course, swing many expected close votes to our side. After getting their asses handed to them in November and after the Trump purge of the party, there will be very few Repubs left, probably less than 20% of the electorate. That will be the end of Repub office holders in Washington.
It will be interesting to see the effect of the collapse of the national Repubs will have on state Repubs. I think it's quite likely that the party splits or just outright dies.
H2O Man
(73,623 posts)I agree 100%.
You make a huge point that I don't think all of our friends here recognize. The pressures on the republican party will continue to increase in the months to come. Internal and external pressures that cause fractures. Just as a lot of divorces involve finances, the money issues will play a big role.
If we were not going to be si busy up to Election Day, and then partying after our massive victories, we might plan a bake sale to help them. Not!

(48 posts)I wasn't a fan of the "breaking news" that President Biden is old, that the media was trying to saturate the public with. Being old myself, I have no problem in identifying others of my generation. It bugged me to hear other Democrats saying that, as if President Biden and his administration have any problems other than republicans opposed to everything he has done.
I should add that every morning I wake up above soil, I'm excited to experience another day of the miracle of life on this living planet, in the eternal Now.

(73,623 posts)a story that I hope puts the issue of age in perspective for young people. Years ago, I took my daughters to visit my aunt and uncle. When I pulled in the driveway, I saw him splitting wood in a field across the road, to wheel up one load at a time. I asked if he needed help?
"No, this is hard work," was his response. He was 91 at the time, and as he liked to point out, weighed exactly what he did when he volunteered to fight in WW2. I trust that you can guess that my daughters have not allowed me to forget this.
I've know more tan a few people in their 90s who are still strong and fully alert.

(73,623 posts)It makes me happy every time I see your "name" and get to read your contributions on this forum. And that is what this community should serve as -- is it not? A place where we are positive and encouraging.
One of the factors we need to be aware of, more elsewhere on the internet, is that the Russian military intelligence's ifluence on the 2016 election is still with us today. The names and faces have changed, but their intent is still the same. Indeed, they have found recruits -- such as Steve Bannon -- to do their work for them. And as repulsive of a human shit stain as he is, he has plenty of volunteers helping him.
I mean, is there really anyone here who wouldn't prefer to be with President Biden & the Democratic Party than with the defendant & his maga cult? And happy that history is calling upon us to crush the opposition?
nolabear
(41,991 posts)Why wouldnt they? As to those like Bannon I am more shocked that hes allowed to exist than that he does. Singular pathology I get, but people being complicit in his pathological ambitions amazes me.
Technology is proving to be every bit as amazing and horrifying as all those old sci-fi writers thought. Whoof.
One of the things I find important is that those known as tweens and teens experience "melt downs" if their parents give them a "time out" from cell phone access -- on a level that psychiatrists and psychologists say that has never been experienced before. More, young girls in particular often have high levels of anxiety and depression that is related to cell phone/internet use.
I've never had or used one. Not that I am opposed to cell phones, for I recognize they have good uses. But there is a negative there, too. And that holds true for many other advances in technology.

The defendants mental decline is on display too which helps.
Biden is a good man. He beat the defendant once before and will do it again.
Wish it was Election Day right now.
H2O Man
(73,623 posts)I could be wrong, but I think the mainstream media has begun to focus a wee bit on the defendant's mental decline. As you know, he is a sociopath, and the pressures he is under are taking a toll. But I think it is fair to say that his age is a factor -- if only because he has an unhealthy lifestyle. And that is not limited to his diet.

(16,541 posts)I turned 14 exactly 7 weeks later. Does that count as "growing up with" the Beatles? I feel like it does, because I was not yet an adult when I first encountered them, and they changed my life forever!
The Beatles made a huge difference in my teen years, and I don't like to even contemplate what that part of my life would have been like otherwise.
I was watching them that night, too. Life was never the same. It's almost funny to remember people saying, "I can't tell if he's a boy or a girl" when guys had Beatles' haircuts. They would be viewed as short and proper haircuts by a segment of today's population.
There was really no part of growing up that didn't have some influence from their music and message. Of course, for many of us, we heard their records a tad differently in college than we had in junior high school.

a great guy. One of my nephews is close friends with Sean.
that's cool. Julian is John's other son, I read that both of them were on the outs, Julian and his dad, but they reunited. I think there was friction between them when he married Yoko.
John was too young and in the middle of Beatlemania when Julian was born. And then met Yoko. As was said back then, John fell in love with Yoko, and out of love for everyone else.
My son did some stone work for Yoko a few years ago. His cousin was showing him pictures from a brownstone house that Sean gave him in NYC, partying with Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. Sean used to attend public meetings on environmental issues in my home town. He's a good man.
