‘I will not feed a demon': YouTuber Ruby Franke’s child abuse case rooted in religious extremism

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The malnourished and badly bruised son of a parenting advice YouTuber politely asks a neighbor to take him to the nearest police station in newly released video from the day his mother and her business partner were arrested on child abuse charges in southern Utah.

The 12-year-old son of Ruby Franke, a mother of six who dispensed advice to millions via a popular YouTube channel, had escaped through a window and approached several nearby homes until someone answered the door, according to documents released Friday by the Washington County Attorney’s office.

Crime scene photos, body camera video and interrogation tapes were released a month after Franke and business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, a mental health counselor, were each sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. A police investigation determined religious extremism motivated the women to inflict horrific abuse on Franke’s children, Washington County Attorney Eric Clarke announced Friday.

“The women appeared to fully believe that the abuse they inflicted was necessary to teach the children how to properly repent for imagined ‘sins’ and to cast the evil spirits out of their bodies,” Clarke said.

Mormon communities, creating a tsunami of insanity.

Jodi and Ruby are fans, as are Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow (whose children ended up dead), as is Alex Jones, as is Tim Ballard, as is the whole Mormon prepper community (which has an outsized influence on far right politics.)

What are Utah's laws on good behavior? I hope not too generous.
They need to be in jail for a long, long time.

How to raise children.

The list is mostly useless and over half of it is either unConstitutional, or not enforced at all in our legal system.

Religion will eventually destroy humanity. I feel we are slipping into another dark ages but I don't think we will ever come out of it.
Always found it fascinating that most religions that "preach" about peace and love and sacrifice really only want power, control and wealth.
I have a friend that was a former Christian pastor that likes to tell people "if you can't see your pastor's hands it's probably because they're in your pocket." Which it seems is a growing trend of megachurch pastors with private jets and 40,000 sq ft mansions taking in money hand over fist.

Religion is dominating Republican politicians and ending all reasonable discourse and compromise.
How do I even begin to find "compromise" with a person that wants to force a raped 11 yr old child to have their rapist's baby? Or that thinks a multicolored flag is going to turn their kid into a homosexual?

Or people willing to use the premise of their religion to commit genocide on another group of people because they feel their religion gives them more right to a pile of dirt and rock than any other religion, even if those religions have the same "god".

Religion, all religions, will kill humanity. We need to purge all religions from society if we have any hope of survival beyond the next 50 yrs or so. That is the max ceiling I give us as the violence and zealotry is rapidly engulfing our society and we are spiraling out of control.

When they know that they're slowly but surely dying off. Which they are in the US. We're fast approaching a tipping point where their influence will fall off precipitously.

They won't let it happen without a vicious fight. It will get ugly, but they will ultimately lose--as they have in England, France, Scandinavia, Germany and etc.

Purity culture at its finest: the kids father was kicked out of the house for masturbation and viewing porn. It’s all sex “addiction” bullshit.
