'He perjured himself': Trump biographer says ex-president just did 'the dumbest thing'

Donald Trump's own biographer says the ex-president may have recently perjured himself. Tim O'Brien, the author of Trump Nation: The Art of Being the Donald, appeared on Saturday on MSNBC's Weekends With Alex Witt, where he was asked about Trump's recent social media post that appears to contradict what he has argued before a judge in court.

"Is there reason to believe that he has the money, even if it contradicts his lawyer's claims they're struggling to secure a bond? Is it worth noting that he has not contributed his own money to his presidential campaign since 2016?" the host asked. "Alex, these are all such good points," O'Brien said. "I am shocked to discover that Donald Trump is not heeding his own lawyers' advice. Let's think of the trajectory of those statements that he has made over the last year about how much cash he has on hand."

"Under oath in a deposition a year ago he said, 'I have $400 million in cash on hand and I am adding significant amounts of money to that total each month.' Then when he got the massive judgment against him a year later, the $454 million court judgment, he suddenly said, 'I do not have the money on hand.'" What that means, according to O'Brien, is that "under oath, he was possibly lying, which means he perjured himself."

"Or, he somehow blew through the stack of money over the last year. Or, it went somewhere else. He didn't want to touch it perhaps and he wanted to lay it off on small donors. But he said he didn't have it... he's going to court to say 'I need to catch a break because I don't have the money.'"

It’s not true, first of all.

Did he get away with the Trump University scam. No, he did not.

I saw a compilation of his scams sometime in the last few days and he has not gotten away with everything, as you say. He’s paid out a fortune for his criminal behavior.

Oh and please tell me about E. Jean Carroll. How did he get away with everything there?

There’s a term for this kind of dismissal: it’s called “learned helplessness.” It is not a pleasant, empowered place to be.

Yes, he does say and do whatever he wants and for that the government takes his assets.

Guess what. You, too, can learn to manipulate the system.

What? You say you have no money? Learn how to do it yourself. I did.

For a decade I filed case after case on behalf of the environment. I won all of them. The defenders had to stop their illegal behavior because they couldn’t afford to lob the same amount of paperwork that I could, all by myself with just a computer and the filing fees. Oh and btw, the filing fees were paid by my adversary when the judges ruled for me.

I manipulated the system by cutting out the lawyer. My adversary couldn’t do that because he/they were too busy polluting the environment, all in the name of “making a living.”

The term for this is self efficacy. You should know all about that but instead you, too, like to play the victim. Oh, poor me. I’d be in jail right now. No, you wouldn’t, not if you learned the system.

Oh and p.s., trump is stupid. We teachers know stupid when it walks in the door.

There is almost no way to BS a good teacher. They’ve already heard every story. They know more of their subject than their students, by far.

Teachers are great detectors of stupidity and snow-jobs.

Bankruptcies mean nothing to him. He stiffs payments all the time & gets away with it. And he hasnt paid a dime to Carroll yet. I doubt he ever will. He's been judged as a rapist; but he walks the streets. So he doesnt care; he's still got his freedom & his money. He hasnt paid a dime to NYC yet either. More delays & appeals. They wont jail him for contempt & his constant threats to people presiding against him. His cases are being delayed and delayed. The ONE case that'll probably proceed is the one people dont give 2 shits about; paying a porn star to stay quiet. The rest will probably be put off till after the election. And if he wins THAT, we'll never see ANY of them come to fruition.

Now maybe, just MAYBE, it'll all start to fall apart. MAYBE NY will seize properties. MAYBE he'll be jailed for violating court orders to shut up. MAYBE he WILL pay Carroll her money.
But as with everything else regarding him, I'm not holding my breath. The ONLY defeat that really hurts him is the defeat WE have to give him at the polls in Nov. And even that is far from certain. And what a damn shame.

You’re one of two “realists” around here. The rest of us are all living in a fantasy world.

Standard fallback for embracing loser, defeatist behavior.

I have never, ever felt like that. There is always something you can do to keep from being a loser.

——

Oh and p.s. people on the high horse don’t get their hands dirty with the hands on work of reading the law, understanding what it says, filing cases, getting certifications, and all that other drudgery. The term for that is being in the trenches. Try it sometime. Get yourself some self efficacy and you won’t feel like such a victim.

Typical raw story misinformation.

Trump’s pleading does not say he doesn’t have $400 plus million in cash to cover the judgment. It says he doesn’t have the $1 billion in cash needed to cover the judgment AND operate his businesses.

From the affidavit attached to his filing:

"In the surety world, a bond of $100 million is considered large; an appeal bond of $464 million is commercially unattainable for a privately owned company. Such would be the case even for a company with billions of dollars in real estate unless they have cash or cash equivalents approaching $1 billion so as to collateralize the bond and have sufficient capital to run the business and satisfy its other obligations. While it is my understanding that the Trump Organization is in a strong liquidity position, it does not have $1 billion in cash or cash equivalents."

I always believed he has the money, or a way of getting a bond. But he's trying to lower the amount.

He's done this with all of the 74+ banks he's used throughout his useless business dealings.

The scam is: he gets the loan, then claims some reason why he can't pay the banks back. Then he drags the bank's name thru the mud or claims he's being abused by creditors. Then the banks get scared. Then they negotiate down from the actual borrowed amount.

So he borrowed $5 million plus 2% interest a year. A year later, he owes $100,000 in interest. But surprise he doesn't have the interest or the original loan amount to pay back. He threatens the bank, then they agree to a pay back of $2 million and no interest. Better some payback then zero. Better lose $3 million then have to recover from a stock price drop and/or a bad reputation. And to add icing on the cake, Trump never reports the loan forgiveness and never pays taxes on it. And the IRS lets him get away with it.

That's what he's doing now, only with the courts, negotiating down the cost of the pay back. If his personal concierge Supreme Court gets the case, he just might get it substantially reduced.

From day one I thought the Carroll amount was far too high. People who have lost their LIVES dont get 10% of what was awarded in this case. Personally I want to see his businesses fail, but now Truth Social is going public & now he gets 3 BILLION worth of stock (yes, he's supposed to be unable to sell any for 6 months, but we'll see)
