Dali Lost Power Outbound from Baltimore
What's Going on With Shipping?
March 26, 2024
In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner - discusses the allision between MV Dali and the Baltimore Key Bridge.
Becoming more clear by the hour as to what happened to this ship. Will be very interesting to hear/read depositions from ship's crew and the Harbor Master after we exit crisis mode.

OP
I wonder if that geomagnetic storm had anything to do with the loss of electrical power.

It will be interesting to find out what caused the power loss. Thanks for posting!

good analysis. Pretty much what my husband and I (Navy vets) had assumed happened.
Thank goodness for the folks who were able to slow down/stop traffic over the bridge. Worried about the missing construction workers.
Will be interesting to see what the investigation finds.

MV Dali and Port of Baltimore Update - March 27, 2024
What is Going on With Shipping?
Learning more every day on how important Port of Baltimore really is to America! Previously, my knowledge of that area was centered around the Inner Harbor where we used to have fun visits to shops and restaurants during business trips to Baltimore in the 90s.
I would assume this disaster will also negatively impact Baltimore's seafood industry.

(146,317 posts)8. I think that's unlikely.
More likely is that the main engine on the ship shut down and no electrical power was being generated.
