I had a small debate on youtube with a RW spewing that we can't afford "entitlements". I replied that these are not really entitlements but programs that hard working people paid into for years. I went on to say that if you want to end these entitlements we should massively cut our military budget and end corporate welfare. At one time I was more tolerant of these people but that type of selfish narrowminded thinking pisses me off more and more. He also said that a election is like auctioning off stolen property meaning that the politicians are promising things that other people paid for. How did this start? I made a reference about why would a woman vote for Todd Akin?

(3,733 posts)Why does everyone consider "entitlement" a dirty word? These are things that we're ENTITLED to.

(1,574 posts)We have paid into these programs in we are entitled to reap the benefits from them. The Repugs think that only a certain class are entitled and the rest are just pee ons it seems.

(111,359 posts)but which are, in fact, insurance premium payouts. Don't let him start babbling about red herrings or start moving the goalposts. Once they do that, it's the Gish Gallop and you'll never get any sense out of them and the debate is over.
I've found that getting them to stick to the subject is the hard part.
Since you've been throwing out red herrings right back at him, this debate is over. Declare victory and move on, you know he'll do the same.

(82,383 posts)They don't want to have to work with others. So they construct a world in their minds where that would be possible. But in the real world there has to be a social order of some kind. They are kidding themselves to think if only they were set free from all the rules, they would be on top and able to rule the rest of us. They benefit from "entitlements" as much as anyone else.

(23,968 posts)I said keep talking that way, the Hispanics voted 74% for Obama. Then they started screaming and yelling like Fox news pundits. It is near impossible to have a conversation with the average Republican.

(62,325 posts)that level of ignorance, when I am in the mood to have some fun.
Sometimes I wonder is there is just one of them posting under dozens of different names because they all sound the same, they all spout the same ignorant nonsense. I never expect to get through to them, they are like cultists, their minds have been completely taken over. I used to, but not any more. But it is fun to get them going and let sane people see just how off the wall they really are.

(23,968 posts)"Mexicans" voted for Obama because they are religious. The right needs to get religion and racism out of it's party or they will be hard pressed to win.
