Amit Soussana has become the first Israeli woman to speak publicly about enduring what she says was a sexual assault and other forms of violence during her 55 days in captivity following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, according to reporting by The New York Times on Tuesday.
Abducted from her home by at least 10 men, Soussana said she was subjected to a horrifying series of events that saw her beaten and dragged into Gaza. The details of Soussanas captivity paint a grim picture of her suffering; from being locked alone and chained by her ankle to being forced into performing sexual acts under the threat of a gun, according to The New York Times.
Soussana, a lawyer, was released in late November of 2023 as part of an exchange of hostages in Gaza who were kidnapped during the Hamas attack for Palestinian prisoners.
Amit Soussanas courageous testimony detailing her horrific captivity is one of many harrowing accounts from hostages held by Hamas, the Hostages Families Forum said in a statement.

Sad to say there are those who either say this is made up or they had it coming.

(3,861 posts)October 7 was a horrific, inexcusable attack against Israel. Denying that, along with the murder of civilians, the taking of, and torture of hostages, and the whole terrorist incident, is as wrong as ignoring it in favor of the additional horror accompanying it in Gaza.
Being realistic is recognizing the politics that led to this all coming about in the first place. It's a long history. Assigning blame, rehashing, or just letting things happen, none of that works.
I don't see what destroying Gaza and killing over 30,000 people has accomplished to resolve this, though. Do you?

The denial of the Oct 7 rapes and killing came out by several groups before Israel had even retaliated.

(10,849 posts)That depends, how many of those are Hamas?
Killing all of them will indeed "resolve" this IMO

I've read reports that some Palestinians Actually Blame Hamas for what's Happening... anonymously of course. Hamas would kill them.

(33,345 posts)The IDF campaign in Gaza isn't about finding and freeing the hostages. It's about destroying Hamas' ability to launch another 10/7.
Because Rafah is Hamas' last stand, the only bargaining chip they've got left are the hostages. They'd rather starve thousands of Gazans than have a temporary pause - they need a permanent IDF withdrawal to survive.
I'm glad she spoke out.
